Man admits guilt in sexual assault of jogger on trail

UPDATE @ 3:27 p.m. (Dec. 19)

A Salem Twp. man pleaded guilty today to felony gross sexual imposition in an attack of a jogger.

On July 30, 2017, a 63 year-old woman was running along the Little Miami Bike Trail when Motz jumped from the bushes and sexually assaulted her, according to a release. The woman was able to break free and run to safety.

"Motz didn't just victimize the 63 year-old woman who bravely fought him off. He also victimized all the women who run along that section of the bike trail who likely are having to think even more about their personal safety than they already do," said Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell in a release. "It's infuriating when a predator like Motz chooses to target a female victim out enjoying the treasure to our community that the Little Miami Bike Trail is," Fornshell said.

He will be sentenced next year.

EARLIER REPORT (Nov. 21)

A convicted sex offender has been indicted in Warren County in a case based partly on “touch DNA,” according to Warren County David Fornshell.

Kyle Motz, 31, of Salem Twp., was indicted on two counts of gross sexual imposition, according to a list released this week by Fornshell’s office.

Motz, a Tier 1 sex offender from a previous case in Lebanon Municipal Court, was arrested after DNA taken from clothes worn by his alleged victim matched his, Fornshell said.

Motz is alleged to have forced sexual contact with a 63-year-old woman running along the Little Miami Trail between Morrow and South Lebanon.

The woman told authorities she was attacked on July 30 by a man whom she had passed earlier walking a small dog, but she was able to fight him off.

She provided descriptions of the attacker and dog and turned over her running clothes for DNA testing.

On Aug. 22, Motz was pulled over in traffic with the dog in the vehicle. Both matched the descriptions provided by the alleged victim.

And DNA tests done on the running clothes by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation matched Motz’s DNA, according to Fornshell.

Motz was arrested on Oct. 18 and is being held without bond in the Warren County Jail, pending his arraignment on Wednesday in Warren County Common Pleas Court, according to jail records.

‘Touch DNA’ requires only small samples to be tested, for example, from skin cells that come from contact with clothing or objects.
