West Carrollton honoring local military veterans awarded Purple Hearts

West Carrollton will honor local Purple Heart recipients next month.

Members of the Ohio chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Honor Guard will lead the pledge of allegiance during the city council meeting Sept. 12, according to the city.

The group will accept a proclamation and members of the Hammond Memorial VFW Post 3438 will also attend.

“By issuing this proclamation, the council aims to acknowledge the extraordinary selfless service of the veterans and active military personnel in our community,” West Carrollton Mayor Jeff Sanner said in a statement.

The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the Armed Forces wounded in combat with an enemy force, or posthumously to the next of kin of members of the Armed Forces killed in combat.
