West Chester puts temporary ban on medical marijuana businesses

Medical marijuana operations won’t be allowed in West Chester Twp. for at least six months after trustees enacted a temporary ban on the state-sanctioned businesses.

Trustees have hesitated on issuing a temporary ban — similar to what several other Butler County communities have done — because they said they wanted to see the rules the state places on the grow, distribution and testing of the drug.

However, a West Chester Twp. businessman informed trustees last month that he wants to open a marijuana grow operation in the township.

So far Hamilton, Middletown and Fairfield have banned the sale of the drug and Liberty, Fairfield and Ross townships have placed moratoriums on the industry.

Ohio’s law doesn’t permit smoking marijuana, but permits vaporizers, patches, edibles and oils. It will be fully implemented in September 2018.
