What the new Elsa’s will have that you won’t find at any other location

Elsa's, which operates four Mexican restaurants and sports bars in and around Dayton, is moving closer to adding a fifth location on Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Twp.

When this news outlet told you about the new restaurant in the works, Jason Hemmert, son of Elsa’s founder Bill Hemmert, was reluctant to go into great detail about his plans, because at the time, he had not yet signed a lease. The space previously housed Caramella’s Italian Kitchen, and, before that, Murphy’s Irish Pub and Barleycorn’s.

But now, construction is in full swing, and Jason has shared some new details about what will soon be this region’s fifth Elsa’s:

Q: What factors led you decide to open another Elsa’s?

A: With the popularity that we have been “blessed” within the greater Dayton region, the demand has been there for quite a while for us to expand our local footprint.

Q: What was it about the Sugarcreek Plaza location that attracted you?

A: We have been actively searching the Miami Valley in all directions with the help of Aaron Savino of Miller-Valentine, whether it be through franchising or adding more locations internally, and through this process this opportunity at this ideal location has become a reality and we are very excited! As I am a Sugarcreek resident myself, it is practically in my back yard.

Q: What will this new restaurant be called? Will its menu be identical to your Kettering location, or will you have other choices?

A: Elsa's Corner Cantina. The menu will be very similar to our Kettering location, however, we will scale it down a little bit and focus our guests; favorite items at first. And of course we will have our full selection of Margaritas (Bad Juans). The outside bar is a feature new to any Elsa's location.

Q: What’s your seating capacity and the number of employees you’ll be hiring?

A: We will seat about 140 inside and 60 outside. And we will hire 35 to 45 employees.

Q: What is your projected timeline to opening?

A: We will not rush the opening; we want it to be right. Our very flexible goal is mid-September, for early NFL/NCAA football, as well as high school football/soccer seasons.

Q: What else would you want your customers to know about this new Elsa’s?

A: Elsa’s has been a huge supporter of youth and high school sports almost since its inception under current ownership, the Hemmert family, and under former partners in the late 1970s. Our locations have long been a gathering place for families and friends to gather before/after these events, and we certainly hope and encourage that to continue at this new venue.

Elsa’s also operates locations on Linden Avenue in Dayton, on Wilmington Avenue in Dayton, on Far Hills Avenue in Centerville, and on East Stroop Road in Kettering.
