WSU opens new medical clinic on campus

A new same-day medical care service opens today on the Wright State University campus in Fairborn.

WrightCare, operated by Wright State Physicians, will see patients from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday in the physician group’s new state-of-the-art building at 725 University Blvd. Wright State Physicians is a private practice group made up of faculty members at Wright State’s Boonshoft School of Medicine.

The building houses several specialty medicine offices, as well as on-site diagnostic and imaging services, including X-ray and MRI, and a CompuNet Labs facility. A pharmacy will soon open on-site, said Dr. Marc Raslich, medical director for WrightCare. He is also the director of the Combined Med-Peds Residency program at Boonshoft.

WrightCare is geared toward patients who do not need a full, hospital-based emergency department, Raslich said. “It’s right for most people, if it’s not a life-threatening event,” he said.

WrightCare accepts most major insurance, Raslich said, and patients will pay the co-payment their insurer charges for a regular office visit, not what they would charge for an urgent-care center visit. “If you have a $10 co-pay to see your regular doctor, it’s the same here, not the $50 or $100 they’d charge you to go to an urgent care,” he said.

Eventually, Wright State Physicians hopes the new same-day center sees four patients an hour, Raslich said. The center will be convenient for students, staff and faculty at the university, as well as civilian workers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and families in Fairborn and surrounding communities.

Doctors in the same-day center can refer patients to Wright State Physician specialists and primary care doctors who practice in the same building. “It’s nice. It’s kind of a one-stop shop,” he said.

The 66,000-square foot building, which opened in June, houses physicians specializing in dermatology, family medicine, geriatric medicine, orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation and women’s health care, as well as Wright State Physicians’ corporate offices.
