Houshmandzadeh subject of trade rumors

The NFL trading deadline is 4 p.m. Oct. 14 and trade rumors are starting to run rampant throughout the league and the Cincinnati Bengals appear to be headliners.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh.jpg

Rumor has it that the San Francisco 49ers could have interest in acquiring Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

According to a source, Houshmandzadeh’s name has come up quite frequently during conversation at Niners headquarters in recent weeks. Apparently, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz is enamored with Houshmandzadeh and may have learned some positive things about the receiver from a member of the Zampese family who Martz remains close to.

The 49ers are looking to upgrade the receiver position opposite veteran Isaac Bruce and are expected to do so by the trading deadline. The acquisition of Houshmandzadeh would provide the team with more firepower in the passing game.

According to the source, the Niners organization is also expected to make contact with the Detroit Lions regarding the availability of receiver Roy Williams, who has been the subject of trade talk for months.

Houshmandzadeh’s agent Kennard McGuire did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Because trading TJ makes no sense, I bet the Bengals do it. TJ puts up as good if not better numbers than Chad and does it quietly and with class, but instead of talking contract extension, your talking trade. This is even more ridiculous when you take into account that Washington offered you a first rounder plus a conditional pick for Chad Johnson this summer and you didn’t take it to prove a point. What that point is I don’t know, I guess that point that you are the worst ran franchise in professional sports and a complete joke.

I can believe the Bengals organization is stupid enough to entertain this trade: take the most consistent, clutch receiver (no, offensive player) and get rid of him. It would be a good move for TJ, but terrible for Bengals fans. Bengals are known for trading away their few strengths and hanging on to their weaknesses. That never changes.

I love TJ and would love to keep him, but I’m sure he won’t be back. Two reasons. The Bengals history of not paying veterans. And TJs age. He’s over 30 if I’m not mistaken and the Bengals figure his best years have passed, or almost passed. Sell high right? And I hope the genious who said get rid of Palmer was joking.

That would be great!! I realy don’t think the Niners would give anything more than a 3rd rd pick since he will be a FA at the end of the year. Lee Evans,T.O,Roy Williams,Deverey Henderson,Roscoe Parish are some of the other FA’S

Depends on what we get in return. TJ’s one of the few who shows-up no matter what so I’d hate to see him go but he’s a FA and there’s no way he wants to return so get what you can. If I was a FA, the last team I’d sign with are the Bengals. Virtually zero chance of making the playoffs.

I don’t know why everybody on the Bengals are saying they are through with the team if they trade him. Your season is already over. TJ is gone at the end of the year (why would he resign?)… so it would be smart as heck to try to get something out of him before he leaves permanently and without a return. The few yards and TD’s he get while on your team this year will mean nothing, you’re not going to the playoffs.

By William

Makes about as much sense as Perry as your starting running back. Someone who has never ever shown signs of being a great or even decent starter. You know you’re bad when Benson is consider an upgrade at that position. Then to put up with Chad (I want a be Owen’s) at Wide reciever. I think Lewis and Brown must be twins as there moves only get dumb and dumber.

Lets not freak out totally on the bengals… The article said that the 49ers are interested, it didn’t mention anything about the bengals front office trying to trade him… and commenting on what everyone else seems to hitting on(as a bengals fan myself), it is true that Mike Brown needs to resign, immediately… he can’t draft, he hasn’t had a productive trade in god knows how long, you can’t be a good team when your GM can’t judge talent any better than a three year old…its rediculous..

Bengal fans are morons. You have to trade him. Hes not coming back next year anyway. Your season is already over. Get something for him while you can. This would be the smartest thing Mike Brown has done in the last 5 years. Take your second rd draft pick and run.

By Matt

October 7, 2008 4:25 PM | Link to this

It doesn’t matter if they get a draft pick becuase mike brown doesn’t know what to do with them… he has thrown away just about every draft pick he has had in the last five years,so the only way i would agree with a trade is if they get a player that has already proven himself in the league…Mike Brown is terrible at his job, but he can’t get fired.. so he needs to step down..

Tj will do well to leave the Bengals and cry baby Chad behind. But San Fran isn’t the Niners of the past and he’d be lucky to catch many passes. All the best to TJ as he’s a class act and deserves better.

I feel sorry for the talent who waste their carriers with Cincy. Money isn’t everything - these guys want, and deserve, to play on competitive teams that have a chance at going to the Super Bowl. If TJ goes, I’ll be happy for him and root for him.

This is just another sign that Mike Brown cannot afford a major league football team. Hamilton county built him an excellent stadium and this is how he repays them. I’ve alway been a Dallas fan anyway, but I feel sad for all the Bengals fans.

By Matt

October 7, 2008 4:59 PM | Link to this

Does anyone else think its interesting that a lot of people say that TJ and others deserve to play on a winning/competitive team, but in the off season when Chad was trying to do just that he was scrutinized.. Us as bengals fans have seen the coaching staff and front office do nothing to improve this team, so don’t you think the players have taken notice as well?.. so how could we blame someone for wanting to leave? Chad tried to get out of Cincy in order to win, but when camp and preseason games started he shut his mouth and played. So i respect chad and frown upon those of you that say otherwise.

October 7, 2008 5:31 PM | Link to this

Season’s over, why not trade him since he’s gone. I doubt they would franchise tag him since he would get top 5 pay for the year and be pissed to boot. Get the best you can from SF and add to the D-line and linebackers in the draft. Remember, the Bengals used a 2nd and 3rd round pick on wide receivers this year and right now are paying them to not dress for games. I can’t believe Bengals fans actually believed the team was going to re-sign T.J. knowing how they drafted and keeping Chad. The team said numerous times they weren’t trading Chad, the cap hit would be large and you’d still have to pay 1st round draft pick money to an additional player.

Why not trade him? The season is already over and the Bengals were clearly planning on TJ not being in Cincinnati nextyear when they used their 2nd and 3rd round picks on WR’s. Why not accelerate the growth of Simpson and Caldwell and get something in return? For TJ’s sake I hope that they trade him somewhere better than San Fran.

sure, co-ordinate a game boycott between tens of thousands of fans. even were that possible, brown would move the team to another city and leave cincy without a pro football probably forever. some justice, perhaps, for hamilton co. residents who voted for the new stadium when most of its schools were older than the previous stadium and said no to casinos. your priorities are purely entertainment driven, so it rather serves y’all right. as if you thought brown would field a competitive team just b/c he has a new stadium….

Trading him and accelerating the development of younger players is the right thing for everybody. TJ with Martz, Bruce, and Gore? TJ would be saying Thanks. They really need to anchor their OL and DL. I understand with no defense they’ll never win big games but they are effectively destroying the talent they have without any O-line. Palmer is dead in the water with no protection, so Chad/TJ are not getting the ball which puts more pressure on Perry when there is no receiving game.I might begin by trading for a rd.2-3 pick and using some of the money saved to bring in decent scouts.

Just trade them all. Marvin’s not doing the team any good with his lack of leadership, Ocho has let his ego get in the way of the game, and Rudi is gone anyway. So get rid of them all and let’s just start over. Otherwise, the team won’t see a playoff chance for a long time.

Let’s get this clear bengal fans. The direction we were in, in 2005 was good. It’s hard to recover with your draft picks getting injured or arrested then having to replace those players with other player that get arrested or injured. They have been in every game this year and just haven’t finished, that is due to lack of experience at really every position exept reciever and QB. About TJ, yeah it would be a lost and he’d be missed but there’s a 2nd and 3rd round pick that can get vauluable experience right now. I still beleve we can finish strong, one step at a time.

By gary

I’m a Packers fan, with Housh on my fantasy team. I want to ax you Bengals fans this: WHY IS MARVIN LEWIS still coaching? This guy has taken what was a great team 3 years ago, and turned it into a laughing stock. He’s done it HIS WAY, taking African thugs left & right, not letting crimes and assaults and bad character sway him. Aaron Kampman, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Jared Allen, Aaron Schobel, Patrick Kerney, AJ Hawk, Mike Vrabel, Chris Long, Zach Thomas, Brian Urlacher… as far as I know, caucasions can play defense pretty well on the front lines. Why all the undisciplined thugs over & over on this team? Wes Welker, Joe Jurivicious, Ed McCaffrey, Anthony Gonzalez, Jordy Nelson, Kevin Walter, Drew Bennett, Matt Jones, Brandon Stokely…. an NFL team is allowed to go that route too. Why never Marvin Lewis?

Actuall, TJ would fit in perfectly at SF. JT O’Sullivan is an excellent passer with a poor OL. In Martz’s offense, TJ would have about 10 passes thrown his way each game, and O’Sullivan is a fine deep passer. I’d hold our for Vernon Davis who would fit in much better in Cincinnati at TE. Martz doesn’t even use him.

TJ would fit in perfectly in Martz’s offense. O’Sullivan is an excellent deep passer who is only having problems due to a leaky OL. With Martz, TJ would have about 10 passes directed to him each game, many of them deep. If I were the Bengals, I’d insist upon Vernon Davis in trade. He is doing nothing right now because Martz uses his TE for blocking only. VD has amazing speed and could help the Bengals now.

I’m Niner fan, I like the idea T.J. comming to the Niner’s. The problem with 49ers is Mike Nolan is dumber then a stump. The Niner’s need to improve the d and o lines before they can be considered a playoff team.

As a 49er fan, I’ll tell you that a wide receiver is exactly what we do not need. We have plenty, but no QB can throw to a receiver from under a pile of defenders. We have no offensive line. Give JTO some time and he can hit his receivers, but as of now he is typically on his a*s in two seconds.

Yep, I’d trade TJ. Get rid of one that isn’t a crimminal and make sure you get a drunk or a jail bird. That’s par for the course in Cincinnati.

I think this is a waste of time T.J. is a waste of a trade and is a below avaerage wide reicever, why would the 49ers even consider tradeing for T.J. is beyond me the 49ers have enough wide recivers and T.J. would be behind Battle and Hill and Morgan who all 3 of theses players are way better than him… Williams is another waste and im not even going to get started on him…If the 49ers even consider tradeing with a team before Oct 14 they nedd to consider tradeing for a QUATERBACK!!!!! or a couple of OFFENSIVE LINEMEN!!!!!! OR SOME DEFENSIVE LINEMAN…. but before this team dose anybetter they need to FIRE!!!!!!! “MIKE NOLAN”

hockey man - The clowns you call a hockey team is in a minor league developmental organization. LOL! It’s not like they won a real title. The Bungles have been a horrible team for 20 years now. There’s nothing that they have shown us that says they won’t be just as bad for the next 20 years. What a joke!

Yall don’t have to worry. Teams never make trades in the NFL.So TJ will stay until he becomes a free agent then leave.Tell that guy who wants Palmer to go. Be glad you don’t have JT UH-O’Sullivan

to that moron who said that TJ would be behind Arnaz Battle, Jason Hill and Josh Morgan… …Umm, are you serious? TJ would easily become the #1 WR on that team. He is by far better than those three you listed. He is better than the three of them combined. Add TJ to the 49ers is a no brainer. If the 49ers decide not to do this, well, does the phrase dumb as bricks mean anything?

Of course every team in the league is clamoring for a slow, over 30 possession receiver who can’t stretch the field and rarely makes a play over 20 yards. Sure.

I see not only 49ers fan are disappointed with people who runs our teams. You are right that trade doesn’t make any sense for Bengals, but if it happens, 49ers will welcome T.J.!! I see Nolan and co. are not the only stupids in NFL. by the way maybe you Bengals would like to trade C. Palmer (I see some of you complaining) what about getting our highly awarded 1st overall draft pick, the awesome A. Smith, ha ha ha … So sad what bad management and poor (very poor) coaching can do to a team …

By James

Man, I hear a lot of whinning and very unloyal fans. 1st thing all the Bengal fans need to get through their heads is; even if TJ is not traded he WILL NOT be returning next season. Many players reach a point in their careers where it becomes more about a championship than the money. The best move the 49ers could have ever made was making Mike Martz their offensive coordinator. Wide Recievers love Martz because his scheme is “pass happy”. As a 49ers fan TJ would be welcome in my heart as a 49er, but I think it more likely that Roy Williams will be signing with the 49ers at the end of his contract with the lions. I think the 49ers need to save their draft picks to pick up a much needed O-line. I do give them props for drafting so many this year, but none of them are worth much. Mike Martz got Issac Bruce to join the 49ers by just asking, and I don’t think it would take much more for Roy. I believe Roy is the better reciever between him and TJ. If you leave the Bengals because TJ leaves then you were never truely a Bengals fan to begin with. My 49ers will always be my team, and I was highly upset when they got rid of Steve Mariucci, when Jerry Rice left 49er faithful were devistated, but still stay faithful to the team. Hopefully one day all you whinners can realize what it means to be a true fan of an NFL team, until then keep jumping from bandwagon to bandwagon and maybe one of the teams you chose will win a superbowl.

From what I can see by what I’ve read, the Cincy management sucks, as much as the team, and so do the fans. As a life-long die-hard niner fan I definitely know the meaning of the word ‘Faithful’… especially in this decade. Send us T.J., we’ll treat him right. hopefully Pintor98-sf was right, and we don’t spend any higher than a 3rd. Or we might just wait ‘till the offseason… J.T. to T.J., TD S.F…. kinda has a nice ring to it, I think.

I agree with James. But I’ve been thinking a 1st or 2nd rounder on a receiver, might be a big boost too, and here’s a guy who might be available now, yada, yada…

First of all, why would the Bengals get rid of Houshmanzadah and not “Ocho Stinko?” That is their problem right there! You wanna talk about your team letting you down, being loyal/faithful to your team, and not jumping on the bandwagon??? I have been a Buffalo Bills fan since the day I was born. Four years in a row, I cried myself to sleep on Super Bowl Sunday. I also did not attend school that Monday. I had my Jim Kelly jersey and my Bills logo shaved into the back of my head/hair. I witnessed the “Music City Miracle,” lived through the Rob Johnson vs. Doug Flutie “Quarterback Controversey,” and I have not seen my team participate in the playoffs this decade. Now, try watching Jim Kelly retire. Try watching Thurman Thomas go to the DOLPHINS(Bills’ biggest rival)!!! Then watch Andre Reed and Bruce Smith, go to the Redskins. Then Marv Levy, a “God-like” figure in Western New York, retired. More recently…We drafted, among other “Sexy” picks, Willis McGahee. A Running Back to battle the productive, hard-working, “Play when I’m injured” pounder, Travis Henry. Then they go out and get Drew Bledsoe, Takeo Spikes, Sam Adams, Jeff Posey, Lawyer Milloy, Troy Vincent, London Fletcher, Mark Campbell, Sam Gash…and many more. “Experts” and Analysts were naming the Buffalo Bills as “Super Bowl Contenders.” We were PRETENDERS. Bottom line was, we were a joke and now ALL of those guys are gone. We watched Eric Moulds and Travis Henry get traded. Takeo Spikes tore his Achilles Tendon, and never returned. Nate Clements and London Fletcher left in free agency. Then Willis McGahee thought we was the BEST player EVER, bashed the team and the city of Buffalo(including its women), all while earning himself a ticket out of Buffalo. We have been looking for a Franchise Quarterback, and we may have finally found him, in Trent Edwards. He was called “The Next Joe Montana,” by the great Bill Walsh. On Offense we have Edwards at Quarterback, backed up by the very capable (but erratic) JP Losman. Running Back Marshawn Lynch is a BEAST. Backup Fred Jackson is a very skilled, lethal weapon. We have a very young and talented Wide Receiver corps(Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, Rookie James Hardy, Josh Reed, Rookie Steve Johnson and Justin Jenkins). Our Offensive Line is very solid (Pro-Bowler = Jason Peters). Our needs are a receiving Tight End, a Center and possibly a Right Guard. We just got a new Fullback, Corey McIntyre, who I have not seen play yet. I really liked Darian Barnes. On Defense we have some new faces. Defensive Tackles Marcus Stoud and Spencer Johnson, have joined Kyle Williams and John McCargo, in the middle. On the outside is Defensive Ends Aaron Schobel (Pro-Bowler) and Chris Kelsay. Backups Ryan Denney and Rookie Chris Ellis, are quality/capable players. Linebacker Kawika Mitchell joins a good trio with Paul Posluszny in the middle, and Angelo Crowell on the strong side. Crowell is on Injured Reserve, so former starter Keith Ellison, takes his place. While Posluszny was out 13 games last year, backup John Digiorgio made himself a very valuable asset to the team, he is solid. Cornerback is our strongest position with Terrence McGee and Jabari Greer, both very good starters. Nickel back Ashton Youboty almost cut, has been one of the best players on defense thus far. The backup Cornerbacks are two solid Rookies in Top-Pick, Leodis McKelvin, and Reggie Corner. Safety is held down by Donte Whitner (strong) and Ko Simpson (free). Whitner is a Pro-Bowl caliber player, and Simpson is a very strong player. Backup George Wilson filled in for Ko Simpson last year, intercepting Tony Romo for a “Pick-6.” Wilson can play either Safety position, he is a former WR. Buffalo’s Special Teams are very passionate about what they do, and are ALWAYS TOPS in the LEAGUE. Brian Moorman is probably the 2nd best Punter in the league, insuring the Bills with good field position. Rian Lindell is a very strong and accurate Kicker. The Bills have had some great Kickers, Lindell holds team records. I WILL NOT go on to predict any records or expectations. I do believe that the Bills are Playoff worthy, and they have a good shot of getting there. However, after seeing Arizona punch them in the mouth, I would say they have work to do. Trent Edwards has to get healthy during the Bye week too. Check them out…they are fun to watch, and as close as a Family a team could get. They love to play for and with eachother, and they all really respect and play hard for their coaches, especially Dick Jauron. Check out some videos of them…CONVERT NOW!!!

I agree. Mike Brown needs to be the first to go. I hope he feels good knowing that Paul brown has turned over in his grave for leaving the Bengals to Mike and seeing how Mike is handling his team. He is absolutely the worst owner in all professional sports. Al Davis is even better than Mike Brown! Now with players, I say trade Chad Johnson. He is already dropping passes on purpose this season to get out of Cincinnati. That idiot needs to go. We should trade him to Dallas for T.O. That will never happen but would be better for us. As for T.J., trading him would be a stupid move.

If the Bengals trade Housh to San Fran all my loyalty towards the Bengals will be gone. (I have been a Bengals fan all my life). I will go wherever Houh goes. I love Takeo and Gore as well so rooting for an up and coming 49ers team with Housh there would be pretty cool. I love the Bengals but if they do in fact trade TJ that’s it for me.

I agree that T.J. rules and why not get rid of chad but how do we let mike brown know how all us true fans feel. why wouldn’t we keep t.j. and why would we keep ocho stinko if he doesn’t want to be here. couldn’t we afford tj with the money from a chad trade?
