Should ABC have canceled appearances by Adam Lambert after his raunchy AMA performance?

ABC has canceled three appearances by Adam Lambert after his raunchy AMA performance, including ‘Good Morning America,’ ’ Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.’ Is that fair?

WILLIAM DULANEY, Kettering: “Yes, because those are family-oriented shows (well, maybe not Jimmy Kimmel), and his behavior wasn’t very family-friendly.”

Lambert-Trash that is trying to gain publicity. Well done, unfortunately.

Well,if he had offended a minority group by saying the “n” word, he would be gone forever. He offended a much larger contingency by his lewd behavior, so let him be banned and live with his decision.

No way…do you believe he did the staging for that performance himself? Doubtful..Both performances were intended to come of ‘dark’ even j-Lo was dressed like an excapee from Madd Maxx

Yes, I think it is fair. Those scenes had no business showing on a non-cable channel. That is the kind of stuff you would see on a late night Cinimax show.

No its not fair because he is doing nothing different than Britney Spears, or Christina Aguilera or Madonna and he is being singled out because he is a gay man and it is not right!

As others have said, if it was two women kissing, there would have been no uproar. Folks, we have to get passed this. There are lots of gay people out there. Always have been; always will be.

When have these music award shows been the pinnacle of morality. Other performers have done things just as bad with no reprecussions. Give me a break.

No. Raunch is in style now. Just look at most TV programs and you will se what I am referring to. No morals in media.

I’m pleasantly suprised that NBC dropped him. It is a small group of people who support this kind of lewd behavior. Most people are sick of people being patted on the back for nonsense like this. I am white, but I have to say it would have to be insulting to minority groups to be lumped in with gays.

I disagree with “we have to get past this”… my Bible does not tell him to get past this it tells me to stand up for what God intended. Sin is still sin and God never intended for a man to be with a man or a woman with a woman!!! Lamberts actions were uncalled for and I’m glad that someone stood against this type of behavior.

Banning him/her/whatever, was absolutely the right thing to do. Each and every little victory against indecency and immorality brings us, as a nation, back closer to the principals on which this nation was founded and make it great. It is WAAYYYY past time that we take up the fight to preserve, protect and defend our nation against the evils of immorality. If he/she/it wants to act that way then there are plenty of other places to go for that purpose.

It’s all kind of silly, isn’t it? Two women kissing???? Not so bad. Janet Jackson flashing at the Super Bowl, moderately evil (sarcasm here). A bunch of rappers praising the virtues of being a MF P.I.M.P., now that’s uplifting. It’s TV, people…not exactly the best example of family values and intellectual stimulation. The networks have the right to show or not show those people they deem worthy, but making this a religious issue or an issue about (this kills me) our children and what they see…well, hypocritical at best and downright bigotry at worst. Those who would speak for God…well, mote in your own eye? Remove it. Worry about your own sins a little more and a little less about everyone else’s and the whole world will be a better place. Amen.

Is it fair? No, it is not fair because if he were to have kissed a woman, no one would be upset right now. Maybe the people who were not offended by this are afraid to speak up for fear of persecution. But is it right? Maybe, but every year more and more questionable behavior is aired to see what can be gotten away with. Also, what is objectionable changes over time. In the 50s, a lot more things were objectionable that we simply don’t care about anymore. However, for federal law purposes, sexual orientation is not a protected class so he can be banned for that still. So I think the more important question is, is it fair or right that it is still accpetable to have different rules based upon sexual orientation? Should homosexual individuals have to sit at the back of the bus? Honestly, that is what some people seem to be saying. Is that fair? Also, society is more accepting of women than men when it comes to homosexuality. Look at Madonna and Britney for one example and look at the Katy Perry, “I kissed a girl song” for another. Would an “I kissed a boy” song by Adam Lambert be tolerated and played on Top 40 radio. My guess is no.

An easier solution for all of this is to stop airing this endless stream of awards shows on broadcast TV. Make it a cable-affair, or even youtube or something. As far as Lambert is concerned, if no one buys his albums, he won’t be on the next awards show. That won’t happen, however, since there are a few “communities” that have put him on a pedestal.

Lets see, I missed this person kissing a man on network TV. Why-cause I never watch an adward show outside the Oscars. Yep could care less who is up for best song or songwriter or song of the year. No County, rap, hiphop, nor middle of the road, no jazz, none. Could care less. If anyone can tell me, without looking it up first, who won a grammy in 1972 for best song and tell me what that person is doing today, I’ll buy you a shake. (hint you want cheese with that), I have other things I can watch on TV- Cable-DirectTv- 250 ch’s and I can tune in or not. or gasp read a book.. Guess which I do?

The following things are stupid: paying attention to celebrities, pop music, award shows celebrating pop music, using sex to sell things or make up for a lack of talent regardless of your gender or sexual preference, and claiming persecution when you deliberately provoke the majority of your target audience. Good for ABC.

Fair, NO WAY! ABC had NO justification for canceling Adam Lambert’s other scheduled performances. The show announced several times that his performance would be shocking and eye-popping, and he delivered. The awards were over so those easily affended people should have turned off their TVs. After Janet Jackson had grabed a man’s crotch during the show for which no warnings were issued, the conservative viewers should have guessed what shocking & eye-popping was likely to be. The viewers who watched have NO RIGHT to complain! Anyone who watched American Idol knows the kind of performances that Adam gives. Personally, I LOVED his performance! I applaud the other stations for inviting Adam to be on their shows! He is extremely talented and is on his way to becoming a mega super rockstar. Whenever he’s on TV, I’ll be watching! And by the way I’m not gay. I’m a 50+ year old lady who loves rock’n roll!

I love how people say we should get back to our forefathers’ values, the same values that allowed slavery and suppression of women’s rights? I think he went too far, but don’t act like today is sooo much worse than yesterday. Slavery, the Holocaust, the Crusades, genocide, human sacrifices, the Crucifixion, Cain killing Abel… I’ll take this century over any of the ones before.

The fact is only a very, very small minority of people want to see grown men kissing on national television. What am I supposed to tell my nephew when he sees something like that? Imagine the why’s behind that. It’s a can of worms better left unopen. When two women kiss it is cute and sexy. When to guys start kissing it is not. It makes me cringe. It’s hard enough to understand why women kiss men. Men kissing men? There is nothing cute about that. Halitosis and stubble, who wants to double up on that?

Anybody that thinks that it wasn’t some type of perversion needs to get checked out mentally. You are not well. Face it, you are an outcast, and you have been most of your life. We feel for you, honestly. We love you, but we don’t want to accept your proclivities or even think of them. Go ahead and surf the web and you can fulfill your deviant thoughts and even meet up with other like minded individuals. Go ahead and buy the gossip magazines that are written for the lowest segment of our society. Did you know that studies show that the average Enquirer reader has an IQ below 80. But don’t use our public airwaves to transfer that puke producing waste of energy. C’mon FCC, ban the trash, for the future of our children.

The real shame here is Adam Lambert getting scheduled on those shows to perform when he should have done it in DOWNTOWN DAYTON. It’s great here, everything is thriving and Adam Lambert would not have to worry about those cesspolls like ABC or Kimmy Jimmel. Downtown is where it is at.

C’mon, we can do better than trash like that. And for the earlier comments, this guy Lambert is a POP singer not a rock “n” roller. Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Kilbane are rolling in there graves when you say stuff like that. It is Pop not Rock. Micheal Jackson= King of Pop, Elvis= king of rock and roll. Get it right or get out of town. Go to San Fran with the rest of the guy on guy lovers.

Good taste and bad taste. We all used to know what was what and respected the norms. It has now become commonplace for extreme minority viewpoints to be thrust upon everyone - like it or not - and then people who find it in poor taste are chastised when they point it out. Well folks, we don’t have to watch this crap. My TV has a channel selection capability, and it also has an off switch. It’s quite easy to be selective of what we watch. I’ve formulated my opinions about what is entertainment to me and that is how I control my viewing pleasure. It’s not very difficult to determine what shows are likely to present something I won’t enjoy. When this sort of thing happens, I probably won’t see it because I’m not watching. Just because these shows are hyped up for weeks at a time doesn’t mean they’re going to be good entertainment for everyone. Just exercise your best judgement and common sense and you probably won’t be dissappointed.

My, my, there certainly are a lot of closed-minded, judgmental people out there! As I said earlier the awards were over, numerous warning were given to the TV audience, and Adam’s performance was shown at 10:55pm on a Sunday evening when school kids should have been in bed. There was a time when Elvis was only shown from the waist up because his hip movements were viewed as vulgar - now we laugh at how ridiculous that censoring was. You may view Adam’s performance as being vulgar now but the day is coming when male homosexuality on TV will be considered no big deal because that’s what it really is - no big deal! Oh, and the “S & M” content is also no big deal- female artists have been including it in their performances without getting public complaint. Time for the double standards to disappear!

IS ABC afraid he’s going to kiss a guy on Good Morning America? And Kimmel and NY Rockin’ Eve are after midnight. If there’s a kid up at that time of night the parents should be disciplined. Adam is gay. That should not be censored. However the S&M stuff is a little disturbing to many. 2 guys kissing? Sure. 1 guy stimulating forcing someone to get him off? That’s a little too much passion. I thought he wanted a singing career, not to be a porn star.

Thank you Renee, you have just confirmed to the rest of the Miami Valley that you are part of a deviant segment of our society. Now, really, that’s nothing to be ashamed about - you didn’t get to pick your parents and the gene pool is just like a lottery. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Most people still consider S&M to be a little too graphic for television. It really is okay that you think it’s fine, but we all know that everyone is not an outlier. When you grow up and become a parent you will be able to raise your infants to Adam Lambert and any other “artist” you consider appropriate for your sophisticated tastes. For the rest of us, we’d rather not share in your enjoyment.

I am not a bible thumper nor am I against homosexuals but just like everything controversial there are those who feel the need to ram it down our throats on a daily basis. Adam Lambert should not have done that on national television nor should Britney Spears and or Janet Jackson. If everyone remembers correctly there were uproars about those incidents as well. Hey my point is this, I don’t feel the need to make out with my wife in public to show everyone what sex I prefer. What you do in your relationship is your business, just don’t do that ** in front of me. How would you feel if when I see you in public I exercise my right of freedom of expression and tell you your a freak and if you want attention buy a dog. If you believe you have a right to do what you do, then I have the right to be disgusted. Adam Lambert should be fired not only because he is obviously very arrogant to do what he did so early in his career or lack of career, he sucked on Idol and still sucks especially with his attitude. The gay movement would be a lot further along if they were not rushing to ram it down our throats!!!!! And please stop putting yourself on the same shelf as racism against blacks, they have been victims of the worst kind of hate, you don’t even deserve the same stage. African Americans still face racism today, so quit crying about your rights until we can fix the real problems.

By Tony

December 9, 2009 8:25 AM | Link to this

You are correct, thinkaboutit, gays have not had to face the same persecutions that African AMericans had to face for years. To take that further, African Americans have not had to face the same persecutions that Jewish people have faced for a lot longer either. The fact still remains that discrimination is discrimination, period. Technically, a bank can refuse to loan money to someone because they are gay because it is not a protected class. Is that right? I don’t think so. And if it happened, you can bet there would be laws put in place rather quickly against it that would legitamize other behavior. But just as things are accepted now that were not 20 years ago, in 20 more years, this will not be considered a big deal. Whether it was Adam Lambert on TV or John Doe at 12pm in Times Square, you should not be able to discriminate against someone for sexual orientation only!

I am gay, and I really like Adam Lambert, and i was not really offended, however… I feel like there is a time and place for EVERYTHING!! Call it whatever you want, He knew what he was doing. If you didnt do this on American Idol (fox), you know not to do it on ABC, NBC. Now if this were MTV or VH1 not a problem. He unfortunately left himself open for this to happen, deal with the consequeces. People can be harsh in America so you have to realiz this doesnt just affect him, but his family as well.
