Odom’s secret weapons: Peanut butter & jelly

His muscular torso reminds you of “Tarzan.”

His legs scream of “Secretariat.”

Bengals right defensive end Antwan Odom has improved his upper-body strength. Now he’s concentrating on weight gain so he can become a more physical pass-rusher and run-stopper at the point of attack.

The sleek and splendid splinter has the reputation of being a speed rusher, but he wants to enhance his image by being more rugged.

He currently weighs 253, but promises to be at least 265, if not 270, when he arrives for training camp on July 27.

His secret weapons?

“Eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at night,” Odom said. “Snickers bars and milk, too. That’s worked for me a lot since I’ve been in the league.”

Odom, who is learning to use his hands with more quickness and force, claims his increased upper-body mass has enabled him to better separate from blocks.

“I’ve gained a lot of upper-body strength,” he said. “I’ve just got to gain some weight now.”

I always heard it was all in the legs and not necessarily the torso. Oh well, I’m glad he is a Bengal and look forward to seeing him sack the QB reqularly and often.

Shouldn’t Odom be working with a dietician/nutritionist for a healthy way to add weight? This isn’t 1960.
