DT Peko signs 5-year, $30.3-million extension
Lost in the madness of Thursday’s three-ring circus at Bengals minicamp was defensive tackle Domata Peko’s good news.
The third-year veteran signed a five-year, $30.3 million contract extension that includes $8.5 million guaranteed.
Peko is now signed through the 2014 season.
“I’m ready to step up as a leader for this team,” he said.
A fourth-round draft pick out of Michigan State in 2006, Peko started every game last season at left defensive tackle, posting 65 tackles, including 1.5 sacks. He also had a fumble recovery.
As a rookie in 2006, he played in every game in the defensive line rotation and had 49 tackles.
“Domata is a fine, young player who has fully proved his worth over the last two years and still has a tremendous upside,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. “We are extremely pleased to have him signed to a long-term deal that ensures his future with our team.
“He has the ability to give us strong support against the run and good pass pressure up the middle.”
Peko’s first name is pronounced “DOE-mah-tah” and his last name is pronounced “PECK-o.”
