‘It’s too late, Chadly, now it’s too late’
“I get paid to be suspicious when I’ve got nothing to be suspicious about.”
— Bill DeVasher (actor Wilford Brimley) in The Firm (1993).
LUDWIG AT LARGE also gets paid to be suspicious. And I’m extremely suspicious about the timing of Chad Johnson’s double ankle surgery, which is supposed to happen today, Wednesday, June 18, according to sources close to Johnson, as reported by ESPN’s John Clayton.
On the surface, it appears the Cincinnati Bengals’ eighth-year veteran wide receiver is finally doing the right thing — for himself and the team — by having painful bone spurs removed.
But the reality is … the arthroscopic surgery is coming much too late in the offseason.
The Bengals wanted Johnson to have a tender ankle cleaned out as soon as possible after the 2007 season ended.
But you know and I know where Johnson was during the Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz.
He was on “Radio Row,” speaking to every national talking head, saying he wanted OUT of Cincinnati.
His plea escalated to a trade demand prior to the 2008 NFL Draft (April 26-27), but his cry fell on deaf ears.
No way was Bengals president Mike Brown going to let Johnson take the $10.8 million signing bonus he gave him in 2006, and let him run.
The Bengals report to Georgetown College in 39 days (July 27), and I’m of the belief that that’s not enough time for Johnson to rest, rehab and be ready to go for the first training camp practice on July 28.
From my vantage point, 7,000 yards away in the press box, a sixth Pro Bowl season for Johnson is in complete and utter jeopardy because of Chadly’s stubbornness.
LUDWIG AT LARGE quoted a line from a movie at the top of this file.
Now it’s time to quote a song.
“It’s too late, baby, now it’s too late.” — Carole King

Ever since we got the internet, and this blogging thing, sports reporting has gotten progressively worse, and Chickly is one of the leaders of the class. Why do you refer to Chad as Chadly? It sounds horribly juvenile. It matches Chad’s antics. Report the sport, and the things that actually pertain to it. Sound like a pro who actually knows something of what he’s reporting.By Chickly sucks

Yes, it should have already been done, but he had this done before & was back practicing in 2 weeks. So, I think you’re blowing this all out of proportion. It’s not a problem, especially for camp.By null SHutup Black apologist

Last time Chad has this procedure he was back on the field in two weeks. If he has the procedure as scheduled he will have more than five weeks to recuperate before the beginning of camp. Great job of trying to make news where there isn’t any.By jeffl

Chad, Fire your agent! You are getting better advice from Charles Collins. Finally moving in the right direction. Should be enough time to recover before training camp…… Not sure why the race card comes into play. What has been reported about Chad are facts…….It’s never to late to be a Buckeye!
