Ndukwe awaits MRI results

NDUKWE INJURES LEFT KNEE

IN WEDNESDAY PRACTICE

===LUDWIG AT LARGE bumped into Bengals strong safety Chinedum Ndukwe at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday on the plaza level at Georgetown College. He was walking gingerly on his injured left knee.===

Bengals strong safety Chinedum Ndukwe has his fingers crossed that the results of the MRI scan on his left knee are negative.

Ndukwe gave coaches, teammates, fans and himself a major scare on Wednesday morning when he crumpled to the turf during practice on the upper field at Georgetown College.

Ndukwe said his left knee buckled when he planted his foot, and his foot stuck in the grass field.

“It was not a good feeling,” he said.

Writhing in pain, Ndukwe got immediate attention from trainers, and was taken off the field on a golf cart.

Less than a half-hour later, Ndukwe was back on the sidelines, where he was closely monitored. He said he wanted to return to practice, but the medical staff and coaches wouldn’t let him.

“He just kind of tweaked his knee and was able to come back, a la Paul Pierce (of the Boston Celtics),” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said.

Ndukwe hopes it’s a “strain” and not a “sprain.”

A sprain means the ligaments are stretched or even torn.

If he has to miss any time, could the Bengals be interested in Stu Schweigert, who was cut by the Redskins earlier this week?
