Wednesday night lights, fights
RUDI RETURNS,
‘SLIM’ SPECULATION
AND DUKES ‘R’ US
===The final night practice of Training Camp 2008 was a spirited affair that won’t soon be forgotten. LUDWIG AT LARGE discovered that Rudi Johnson is alive; that a training camp fight is positive medicine; and Chris Henry’s chances of returning to the Bengals is just like his nickname … SLIM.===
Rudi Johnson practiced for the first time in two weeks. He looked good running the ball and was in great spirits.
Dexter Jackson and Nate Lawrie rumbled in what is believed to be the first training camp fight of 2008. Dex runs his mouth faster than Michael Phelps swims, and Lawrie — a Yale grad nicknamed “The Senator” — had enough of Dex’s yapping filibuster in the secondary. The two locked up and all I could see was a swarm of players grabbing them and separating them … with Reggie Kelly playing peace maker.
Good to finally see a fight. I was wondering what took so long. Now I’m curious to see if the Queen City Kitties can show their claws against an opponent.
Of course, Chad Johnson said he could out-swim legendary Michael Phelps, the Gold medal machine for the United States Olympic Team. ESPN’s Mike & Mike had a ball with that one. If you read the Q & A with Chad, you’ll find we’re dealing with a very talented Looney Tune.
And, finally on Wednesday night, head coach Marvin Lewis tried to extinguish the embers of the Chris Henry fire that keeps smoldering.
I have to hand it to Henry’s agent, Marvin Frazier. He’s doing a great job of keeping his client in the news. Thirty-two teams have the opportunity to sign Henry. None have. That should tell you something.
Folks, here’s what’s happening. Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are in touch with Henry, telling him how much they miss him … telling him that he’s better than the crop of Bengals wideouts vying for the No. 3 role.
Natch, Henry tells his agent that his former teammates love him and miss him, and Frazier spreads the word — discreetly — to selected members of the media (in this case, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter) that the Bengals are unhappy with rookie draft picks Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell.
Don’t buy it because nothing is further from the truth.
Simpson and Caldwell are steadily progressing, and both will be fine, just fine. As for Marcus Maxwell, Antonio Chatman and Glenn Holt, they might not be filet mignon, but they’re not cheap ground beef or chopped liver, either.
I asked one of the Bengals’ higher-ups about Henry re-signing with Cincy. The response: “IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON, IF AT ALL.”
Here’s a quickie transcript of Marvin Lewis’ exchange with the media on Wednesday after practice.
Q. NFL.com had it that you guys are talking to Henry again. Is it true?
A. Oh, I wouldn’t … don’t put any stock in NFL.com.
Q. Hey, wait a minute. Bengals.com is part of that network.
A. Well, as I said …
Q. So you can’t or don’t want to confirm it?
A. No.
Q. How about your receiving situation. That Henry story has some legs because the receivers …
A. I don’t think it has legs because of anything. We need to get T.J. back and healthy, and keep working with the other guys.
Q. How did the receivers do at Green Bay?
A. I thought we did a good job. But this question, talking about the third receiver, when most (teams) don’t have two. So I appreciate that.

Maybe Northern Kentucky police precincts can petition the Bengals to bring Henry back because something has been missing in their lives since he’s been gone.By Troy

THANK YOU CHICKSTER!!!! Too much has been made of Chris Henry going back to the Bengals. It’s not going to happen! “A snowball’s chance in hell” comes to mind regarding things more likey than Henry playing for the Bengals again; you’d have better luck finding a Browns fan without a mullet than seeing Chris Henry in a Bengals uniform again.By Steven Ross

Sign Henry NOW! He spreads the “D” like nobody’s bid-ness!Imagine Chad, TJ, Henry, Utecht along with a healthy Rudi and Perry and I’m liking our “O”. Unstopable! Admit we probably reached taking Simpson so high and let him watch/learn from three of the best.By Brian

One of the biggest problems with re-signing Chris Henry that Jason Shirley might be tempted to watch/learn from one of the best at getting suspended by the league.By ラフティング
