Pounding the PBS pavement

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

TO THE PARKING LOT,

CHICKSTER IS ALL EARS

Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator, assessing the unit’s performance in a 13-0 loss to New Orleans & looking ahead to Indy:

“We suck. The really disappointing thing was the overall effort in the game. They just weren’t flying around to the football like they had been all through camp. I don’t know what the reason for that was, but that was disappointing. So, really, that’s what I’m looking for this weekend. And like I told them the other day, I want to find out when we get punched a few times, who wants to punch back? We got punched a few times the other night. Who wants to take it, and who wants to get up and give us something?”

Carson Palmer, Bengals quarterback, on his broken nose:

“I’m good. Good. Better than I look. I just got kind of hit in a weird position. Helmet came down. Either that or I got a fist in the facemask. Not really sure how it happened. But it’s part of the game. Kaes (ex-Bengals safety Kevin Kaesviharn) got me. Little payback, I guess.”

Marvin Lewis, Bengals head coach, on Palmer’s nose:

“The fact that he stayed in for two more plays and played, I think, is what he is all about. If we would have had the ball for six more plays, he would have been in there for six more plays and finished the drive. Unfortunately, we didn’t, but that just kind of shows the guy he is and so forth and how he goes about his job and his business.”

T.J. Houshmandzadeh after practice on Tuesday:

“My body is saying that I’m fine. I knew that but I just had to make sure of it. I felt good. I knew I would but there is always doubt with something like that. I think we’re all getting back in time. Chad will be back, Antwan Odom is getting back, Carson will be back, so I think we’re all coming around pretty good right here now.”

Chick Ludwig, Dayton Daily News’ Bengals beat writer and author of “Ludwig At Large” blog on DaytonDailyNews.com:

“If coffee drinking were an Olympic sport, I’d be chillin’ with Barack and Michelle with a Gold medal draped around my neck.”

Keith Young, Edgewood, Ky., loyal Chick-oholic:

“Chick, stick to sports, and not political commentary. I don’t want to hear about left wing, communist, socialist, tax-dollar spending, entitlement, baby killing, government run drivel from you or anyone else. I’m a Reagan Democrat, and I’m here to read sports.”

Chick, sorry to turn off your night light, but what makes you think Ivy league grads like BHO or Michelle (Harvard, Princton) would want to chill with a beat sports writer for a town somewhere off the I-75?

Chick, how on earth do you ever sleep, given that you drink enough coffee every day to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool? If any of my fellow readers missed it, check out the “day in the life” article on the 1570 WPTW website. It gives us loads of good material to work with.
