Bengals re-sign Rowe, call up Lawrie & Pope; Carson likely done for the year

ROWE’S MERE PRESENCE

IS A STRONG INDICATION

CARSON’S SEASON IS OVER

Signing quarterback Jeff Rowe to the practice squad on Friday, Oct. 17, is another indication the Cincinnati Bengals are getting ready to shut down starter Carson Palmer (inflamed right elbow) for the season.

Look for Palmer — who won’t play against Pittsburgh on Sunday or at Houston on Oct. 26 — to get placed on Injured Reserve soon.

Rowe is needed to share the load of snaps given to new starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and backup Jordan Palmer in the wake of Carson’s injury.

Rowe, the Bengals’ fifth-round draft pick in 2007, is a second-year player from Nevada. He spent last season on the Bengals roster, inactive as the designated third QB. He was with Cincinnati in the 2008 preseason, completing 24 of 43 passes for 228 yards with no TDs and one interception.

He was waived on Aug. 30.

The Bengals also made these roster moves on Friday:

—-Signed TE Nate Lawrie from the practice squad. Lawrie (6-6, 255; Yale) is a fourth-year NFL player. He played in three Bengals games in 2007 (no receptions) and played in all four Bengals 2008 preseason games. He was released Aug. 30, spent a week on the Baltimore practice squad, and was signed to the Bengals practice squad on Sept. 11.

—-Signed CB Geoffrey Pope from the practice squad. Pope (6-0, 186; Howard) is classified a first-year player. He has played in one Bengals game this season (Game 3 at the New York Giants) while spending five weeks on the practice squad. He spent the 2007 regular season on the Giants practice squad and was activated to the roster in postseason, playing in two games with one special teams tackle.

—-Placed FS Herana-Daze Jones on the Reserve/Injured list. A third-year NFL player, Jones suffered a hamstring injury last week against the New York Jets. He played in Games 1 and 5-6 this season, with five special teams tackles, missing Games 2-4 with a hamstring injury. He led the Bengals in special teams tackles in both 2006 and 2007.

—-Placed C Kyle Cook on the Reserve/Injured list. Cook is a first-year player from Michigan State. He has played in the last five games, primarily on special teams, but in the last two games he has re-aggravated a dislocated great toe that he sustained in warm-ups prior to Game 5 at Dallas. Right guard Bobbie Williams becomes the Bengals’ No. 2 center behind starter Eric Ghiaciuc

All this activity should help to keep Cincinnati in line for the first draft pick next year. My question now is this: assuming the Bengals keep Palmer next year, and they draft and sign that first pick, has any other team in the NFL ever had two First draft picks on a team at the same time (other than through a trade or some other acquisition)? Just asking.

Wake up and smell the coffee! Brown doesn’t want the 1st round pick. He’ll have to pay them big money. He prefers drafting obscure players that MIGHT have a chance to develop into players and of course they never do. He can sign them on the cheap because they never thought they would get a chance to play in the NFL. He thinks he’s his Daddy and he’s not! Paul could recognize talent.

Well, he does have Carson Palmer and I believe he will spend enough money to make us think he has a championship team, so as to come and fill the stadium seats each week. That’s his goal. We just assume he wants a playoff team.

As I have said many times the Bengal backups aren’t very good. So we shouldn’t expect them to fill in like the Steeler back ups can and do.

With the first pick the Bengals defer to the second round.

I look forward to reading benGAL news on the internet every morning now. 20 years as the joke of the NFL and you’re starting the next 20 years off quite well! LOL! As a Steelers fan, I can’t wait till tomorrow. The Steelers should win by 35 unless they call the dogs off in the third quarter. The Steelers might be working on their 7th or 8th Super Bowl ring before the benGALS make the playoffs again. ROTFLMAO!

Too bad Mike Brown is a loser that sucks at finding talented players. STEELER NATION misses the Bengals/Browns rivalry of the old days! I’ve lived in SW Ohio 22 years and it’s an undisputable FACT there are far more Steeler fans in this area than Bengals/Browns fans combined. STEELER NATION OWNS OHIO!! GO STEELERS !!

Placing Carson on the IR is simply a move that will allow the front office to justify this horrendous season. Supposedly, Carson was injured in Q1 of the Giants game. If this injury was so bad, how was he able to finish that game and also play the entire Dallas game??? I’m not buying that the injury is that bad. Brett Favre would be playing in this situation.

Hey Chick; Better late than never. Go-Bengals.com had this a week ago about Palmer being shut down. Seems one poster there has the real inside on the Bengals. Only after the WRs hinted about Palmer being shut down did the local media pick up on it finally.

Joseph and Katmandu you are both Idiots. Why would the Bengals have benched Palmer thinking the season was over after takin the Giants into OT if you recall they played the Browns the following week. Wouldnt you think they would think that they would get rollin after such a good game I mean it was only week 4? Hes hurt moron. They wouldnt bench him after a good game when the team played well thinking the season was over. They would have tried to keep rolling. Katmandu your just an idiot also no way in hell the Steelers have nmore fans in ohio the Browns and Bengals combined. Thats the most ignorant statement of the year, well 2nd next to joe’s.

Jimbo1238 and Joesph both have it correct. What good does a draft choice matter to the bengals and yes it gives the front office an excuse for the season. Secondly Rowe shouldn’t have been cut and he got screwed out of a position with the team this year. Strange things may happen and he may get yet another chance to prove that he belongs. Thirdly, guys ike RavensRockNorth need to find something else to do with their lives other than posting negative on an obscure website. RRN get a life.

MB has got to spend enough money on this team to keep you interested and coming to the games, and spending money on his team. He only wants you to think he has a playoff team, and in so doing you will come to his games. His family would like you to quit selling your future game tickets on eBay.
