Your limericks about the Reds
I asked for some limericks from you,
Concerning the Reds, it’s true.
You sent me some good ones,
And even some bad ones.
But you showed me you do have a clue.
-Hal McCoy
AND HERE are some of the entries - and I assume most of you have day jobs.
THERE ONCE was a player named Rolen,
Whose MVP probably got stolen.
By Votto, it’s true, did that make Rolen blue?
Not since the Reds are controllin.’
-Joe Lilly
THE REDS have a closer named CoCo,
Who drives avid fans mucho loco.
He comes in as relief, but causes such grief,
They can’t sleep without sipping hot cocoa.
-Thomas Doerfler
FANS YELLED when Walt traded for Rolen,
For old friends Walt must have been trollin’,
But since Rolen arrived,
The Redlegs have thrived,
Good that trades are not based on fan pollin.’
-Richard Bader
THERE ONCE once was a man named McCoy,
For whom writing is such a joy,
He penned on baseball, was sent to the Hall,
And now watches from home on his La-Z-Boy.
-Kevin Imfeld
THERE ONCE was a team named the Reds,
Who used to not know their blank from their heads,
But now we’re Dunn with the old ways,
And on to post season days,
Even if CoCo requires us upping our meds.
-Michael Hutter
A SKINNY outfielder named Stubbs,
Took his bat and murdered the Cubs.
In the box he stepped in,
This outfielder thin.
Made Cub fans bite their nails to the nubs.
-Gary Schatz
IN SPRING we did start the season,
The fans with no faith for some reason.
But players put trust in Baker,
He’s proven that he is no faker.
So here we are headed to postseason
-Terry Eby
THERE ONCE was a Redleg named Votto,
Whose quotes were all voce sotto.
But if hits were words,
Then he surely is heard.
Cause that lumber of his speaks a lot(o).
-Mark Mann
THE WINNINGEST pitcher is Bronson,
From Key West he is, not Wisconsin.
His fastball’s not fast but his curve is a blast,
He strikes out quite a few, don’t you know, son?
-Dave
THERE ONCE was a manager with a toothpick,
Who had a first baseman that hit like “The Mick.”
The Reds seem to play loose, with a right fielder named Bruce,
And the NL Central crown should do the trick.
-Jarrod Talbott
AND NOW my favorite ‘clean’ limerick (not about the Reds):
A WONDERFUL bird is the pelican,
His beak can hold more than his belly can.
He can store in his beak,
Enough food for a week.
I’ll be damn if I know how the hell he can.

There once was a feller named Maloy; Who fancied himself a McCoy; Poor limericks were his plight; Sorta like Stubbs eyesight; And, on that one dear Gary, say “Good Night”.

As usual Stubbs does not take charge in the outfield; and one more fly ball lands in front of him; and almost got picked off of first.

LaRussa, he’s overrate-o. This manager, he no is great-o. He throw-a no punch-a, but he lose-a his lunch-a, at the leg kick of Gianni Cueto.

It isn’t important that Stubbs is finally earning his salary; or that he probably will prove himself as the better prospect of he and Dickerson. What is important, is that it is correct, as mentioned here, that at the beginning of this year, and during the time Dickerson was here, he was not given the same opportunity that Stubbs was given at playing centerfield. Anyone who can’t admit that, wasn’t watching!I believe that was the point being made about Dickerson, nothing more, or less. Some of you do not retain what you read very well.Pay attention dummies.

Did we notice noone had anything to say in defense of Stubbs year long slump. Three strikeouts per game gets real old; and cost this team lots of wins! Do you idiots know how many 29 year olds are playing major league baseball this year. Weak, weak argument. Where is Janish? Manager of the year, must not have read the statistics, or seen the range, and arm of his best SS. They win in spite of Baker lineups.

I wonder what a good manager could have done with this team? Dusty is average at best. He’s a player’s manager,or so I keep hearing. What about a manager that plays to win every game now that’s a fans manager !!

Shut up about about Dickerson … he’s not very good. He is hitting .220 with the Brewers … he’ll be 29 soon and he isn’t in the Brewers’ future either. Stubbs is 23 and going 20/20 this year. Get over your odd love for Dickerson.

Ahh yes, the ever faithful “front runners”, who pop out when it’s almost over—but who conveniently forget how long during this season that Stubbs struckout leaving runners on base{that cost the Reds a win}; or how many times a well placed bunt by him could have kept an inning alive, with runners on base{and he still cannot bunt, even though Dusty has been working with him on it ALL YEAR}. Dusty and Jocketty suggest you must be patient with young players—meaning, of course, the young players THEY like! Like Stubbs and Bruce—not those THEY gave up on early, like Hanigan, Janish, and yes, Dickerson, also. Dickerson NEVER did get a regular opportunity to play consistently in center during the past two seasons—and injury wasn’t the only reason he didn’t play there—they wanted THEIR BOY Stubbs! All well and good—but the fact is, they did not give Dickerson the same opportunity{ in center} as Stubbs. Hanigan and Janish had to “force” Baker to play them; then he took credit, for their success which started at the end of last year. And, then there was Patterson and Taveras and Gonzalez…Shall I continue about Baker’s patience with ‘younger’ players…? This team is having success in spite of Baker’s lineups. But, please go on with your nonsensical comments in lyric form.

There once was a manager named Baker, Who should be a license-plate maker, His teams always stink, when they are on the brink, Makes the fans head for the Vodka and tonic shaker.

Here’s one from the 70s about George Foster: Dr. Foster is no impostor, the pitchers pray for rain. The curves they hung when Foster swung were never seen again.

Boy…these are hard to stop once you get “Rolen”… A player named Brandon once said, That whiners will not get ahead. The Redbirds that night, did put up a fight; That lit the Red’s fire instead! My heart, it will always bleed Red, Though many folks thought they were dead. This year’s been a blast, not coming in last; But in fact coming out ahead! There once was a player named Votto, Work and play hard was his motto. With the bat and the glove, he earned the fan’s love; And the Reds won the MVP lotto! We left the Redbirds in our dust As we played for post-season or bust. With pitching and scoring, this season’s not boring; As we all pledge “In Votto we trust!”
