So the other day I asked when stores should put out their Halloween merchandise and a resounding number of you responded that it shouldn’t be before Sept. 1. Though a lot of you still felt that it shouldn’t be before Oct. 1.
I also promised a second poll: When should people start putting these decorations out at their homes? Vote in the poll and share your opinions.

It’s time again to get lost in corn mazes across the area. If you’re looking for a fun one to head out to, check out this guide to area corn mazes. More are being added as they open and the season continues.
Been to one already this season? How was it? Which corn maze do you recommend to others?

‘Tis the season for a new Build-A-Bear arrival.
Just in time for fall is an adorable Pumpkin Fun Kitty selling for $16 without any accessories. And who needs ‘em? This cat is cute enough without a costume…
But if you desire to do so, you can accessorize your stuffed creations (pumpkin kitty or others) with Halloween costumes like a pumpkin, witch’s hat and more.

The Halloween season is just now really getting under way. Day by day more stores put out their Halloween merchandise and it crops up in more conversations. Many area stores however have had stuff out for weeks (even months in some cases). So my question to you is this: How early is too early? When is the appropriate time to start seeing Halloween merchandise out in stores (this is different from when people actually put up decorations at their homes - that poll is forthcoming)? Vote in the poll and share your comments below!

If you enjoy decorating for the holidays (any of them), decorating your home (especially in themes - apples, western, travel, tropical, etc.), planning coordinated parties (baby showers, bridal parties, birthdays and more) or getting married and doing all of that (and more) without spending a fortune then Flower Factory is the store for you.
They have a little bit of everything. And right now you can get a FREE personal membership. All you have to do is bring a valid ID with you to the store and check in at the front counter. I went yesterday (on a holiday no less) and the whole process took about 5 minutes (and that was with them being rather busy).
If you’re a vendor, non-profit, independent sales consultant, manufacturer or wholesaler you can also get business memberships with the appropriate documentation.
So if you’ve got the time, take a few hours (or a whole day if you’re feeling adventurous) and take a trip to the flower factory. I highly doubt you will regret it…

As previously noted, the former Sofa Express in the shopping center with Wal-Mart, Deals and Fashion Bug in Beavercreek has had signs declaring “Halloween USA coming soon!” for a few weeks now. Well as of today the store was still not open, but the view inside was definitely encouraging. As I drove past I could see tons of Halloween items stacked up, awaiting display. I noted tombstones, skeletons, and an inflatable item of some sort as I passed by.
I checked Beavercreek’s Target location today, encouraged by the online section of their site, but it’s still all about back-to-school and College ‘08. Although the stock of those items seems to be dwindling and few aisles are emptied (clearly ready for spooky decor!).
As of Thursday night, Fairborn’s Kroger location had the first of their Halloween candy out in the center aisle and a few pieces on bare shelves in preparation for Halloween displays.
Michaels now has their Lemax Christmas village displays up and both it and the Spooky Town display are plugged in and protected by display cases, making it easier to see what the different buildings do. Some light up, some move and some make noise. Some do all three!
Have you noticed Halloween items out anywhere yet? Let us know!

Better Homes and Gardens has released their Halloween special publication for 2008. It’s filled with ideas for decorating, clever Halloween-themed cooking, party planning tips and ideas and more. There are ideas for kid-friendly parties and also for adult soirees. Their Web site also has a variety of ideas and recipes (many that are in the magazine).
If you need a simple pot-luck dish for fall, they have ideas for those too, like this pumpkin cream cheese spread recipe. According to the site, the prep time is only 10 minutes (plus at least 1 hour of refrigeration).
