Not everybody undecided at McCain event

More than 150 people packed into a meeting room in Schmidt Hall at Xavier University in Cincinnati for a town hall meeting with Republican presidential candidate John McCain. The meeting was set to start at noon on Thursday, June 26.

The crowd mainly undecided voters, picked by a marketing firm, but there also were college students and McCain backers.

Rich Volkerding tagged along with a friend, with of the undecided voters, and Volkerding sounded like a likely McCain backer.

“I’m not thrilled with anybody but there’s no way I’ll vote for Obama,” he said, referring to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Why not?

“I think he’s a Marxist,” said Volkerding, 53, a machine tool salesman from Batavia.

Niranha is 100% correct - Obama’s economic policies require higher taxes - WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WE DO NOT NEED NOW. Obama is going to drag the country down. McCain has an economic stimulus plan which will revitalize the economy. After all the horrible effects of the Clinton economic policies which created bubbles which ARE STILL AFFECTING THE ECONOMIC HEALTH OF THE COUNTRY. McCain’s low tax policies are the correct way to go to LONG TERM ECONOMIC HEALTH FOR THE ENTIRE COUNTRY INCLUDING SMALL TOWN AMERICA. .

While Senator McCain may not have the “spark and sizzle” that Obama does, he is the most experienced, and moderate candidate. While Obama seems like a nice guy, his economic policies don’t make sense; history shows that raising taxes during a recessionary economy can be disastrous. Strong leadership in national security is critical right now, and Senator McCain has the background and experience there too. These issues are too important to hand them over to inexperience just for the sake of “change”; change is necessary and inevitable, let’s just make it in the right direction.

Seriously? You can’t be serious. Bill Clinton was a good president, and Obama should be elected because he’s young. Hell, he has no experience. That’s the difference between the Repubs and Dems; the Repubs run their side like a corporation, a CEO after hard work, climbing the ladder, etc. On the other hand, the Dems would put in a junior, new kid out of college running the corporation, after a six month internship. Madness, sheer madness. Don’t like your thoughts McCain is bad because he doesn’t like gay rights (I don’t), supports being victorious in Irag (or let Iran rule the mideast and cause WWIII- no, a nuclear meltdown in a few days), and other silliness. Scares me to death to think the Dems would actually put this inexperienced freshmen Senator in as President, and that inexperienced Billary, and her cabinet of wimps that caused the problems with Bin Laden to begin (Please, no more Albright and the recycled Clinton team for that “change” agent Obama!).30 year executive who paid his dues is the candidate Republiacans have, contrast to associate salesmen level 1 Barack Obama now President of the counytry. Frightening to say the least.

If you believe Sen. Obama’s talk about getting out of Iraq, then why is it he has not been there since 2006 or had any recent meetings with Gen. Petraus? Sen. Obama should be monitoring the situation more carefully and lay out his specific plans to do so. When people talk about how Sen. McCain being a third term of Bush, I remind them that Sen. McCain got “hosed” over by GWB in the 2000 election. GWB started the rumor that Sen. McCain had an illegimate black daughter. Sen. McCain has an adopted daughter from Bangladash and the rumor was about as mean as it could be. The adoption was arranged by what you call his “trophy” wife. And do not get me started on the First Wives discussion. When no one even his own party would stand up to GWB, Sen. McCain do so. He voted twice to reject the tax breaks for the rich, to get rid of Donald Rumsfeld, for global warming, to end torture as some examples. Sen. McCain is a honorable man who has served this country with distinction. I believe that given his record and maturity, that Sen. McCain would handle the fine balance between national security and the military options with much more expertise. Sen. McCain has a campaign ad that says it all to me, “I hate war” and I believe him.

How can lower taxes hurt this economy? When businesses are choosing to invest in our neighboring states instead of Ohio because of our tax burden, it is time to look at the tax burden. Also, a break for struggling families is not a bad idea either. John McCain has a lot to offer Ohio.

Yes, McCain is a veteran and a former POW. He served this country honorably, though the government has frequently not done the same. It’s too bad he didn’t learn enough from VietNam. All the horrible predictions from what would happen when the US left Viet Nam simply didn’t happen. McCain is right, ecomonics is the key. He wants to continue tghe bush policies of giving tax breaks to the rich and spending billions on a war based on lies. How’s that working out for us?

Sorry about the repeat posts. Puter was not acting as it should, didn’t even think it HAD posted. But TRS you have bigger prpblems than my multible post. TRS, anyone who wants to see our troops continue to be killed for Bush’s lies and incompetence, has no right to talk about anyone else’s “respect for our troops”. Your “respect” has gotten thousands of them killed, dead. You have a hell of a way to show respect for our troops. I wonder, TRS, if you respected Sen. Kerry’s service to his country? I doubt it. If so, you would have voted for a hero like Kerry instead of a coward like Bush. “Vitriolic”? Just what is “vitriloic” about pointing our the “respect” McCain showed to his wife and mother of his children. Always nice to have “Country Club” wife when you want to play on your POW status to get elected. I guess the old, heavier, model just wouldn’t do in the circles he wanted to travel in. Other than being a POW, I have no “respect” for an almost last in his class, opportunist, who supported almost all the Bush silliness and all the most terrible of Bush’s blunders.McCain’s less than stellar “service” to his country, if you can call supporting Bush a “service” is at an end. And the country will be ever so much better for that fact. Sorry for the trophy wife. She will be disappointed.

McCain… Hmmm, I’m thinking, there is absolutely no way I will vote for him. I am strongly opposed to his views on religion, gay rights and especially his view of keeping the troops in Iraq indefinitely. We need younger views in the White House like we did with B. CLinton. McCain can kiss his chances goodbye if Obama and Hillary join on the presidential ticket.

Wow - X3 the vile, vitriol and hatred - Gee, Savagenation, do you think you could hit the “Post” Button a bit less? Pity you can’t even respect Senator McCain’s service, over and above most, to our country. Shows what a sham your alleged respect for our troops are.

Ethel, did McBush write a thesis on how he divorced his first wife, who waited for him while he was a POW and then was tossed aside for a rich younger woman, after his first wife had an accident while he was a POW and became disabled and heavier? Yes, that shows a lot of courage and leadership skills. As for his record in the Senate, he has voted for Bush’s lunacies 95% of the time, including voting against the welfare of our troops and veterans and against health care for poor children. Not very courageous is that. But surely the type of person you love. BTW the “deep hole” our country is now is, is because of Bush and McBush and people like you who didn’t have the sense to vote for intelligent, responsible candidates when you had the chance. If you vote for an idiot, that is terrible. If you vote for an idiot, twice, then you are truly without the least bit of common sense. It think I have just described Ethel.

I have often wondered sadly how different this country might have been had Sen. McCain got the GOP nomination in 2000. Although we are left with no good choices this year, I am still impressed with Sen. McCain’s overall history and record. When he was a POW, he could have left and he did not do so because he refused to leave his troops behind. Sen. McCain also wrote a thesis on how he survived his POW experience and a pertinent part of that was that he had studied the countries and their cultures so was able to navigate through their customs to survive. So Sen. McCain not only proved he had courage, but he also has knowledge about other countries too. Certainly, his Senate record shows he has worked across the aisle on many issues leading to law. The latest example is the campaign finance reform co-sponsored with Sen. Feingold. Even through Sen. Obama has promised change in the way they do business in DC and signed a pledge to follow that law, he has “changed” his mind and is opening his campaign to take money from whomever Sen. Obama can get funding. To honor his pledge and follow the campaign reform act would have been a wonderful display of leadership on Sen. Obama’s part. So far, the way Sen. McCain has handled himself has shown me that he has the necessary leadership skills and maturity to lead this country out of the deep hole we are in now.
