To Veep or Not to Veep: Portman will be at Nutter Center either way

Regardless of whether former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman is Sen. John McCain’s vice-presidential pick, he will be at next Friday’s McCain rally at the Nutter Center at Wright State University, according to Rob Lehman, a longtime Portman aide.

Lehman also said that Portman will be at the Republican National Convention in two weeks in Minneapolis. But he would not discuss whether or if Portman is in talks with McCain about being the vice-presidential nominee.

Portman, of Terrace Park, is a former U.S. trade representative and former director of the Office of Management and Budget. He also served Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District from 1993 to 2005. He’s also been repeatedly mentioned as a possible vice-presidential contender.

What a pathetic paper the DDN is….our possible next president is coming to Dayton, Ohio and is possibly going to announce his VP and the website has not a mention…..your bias is pathetic and you are doing everything you can to get Obama in. He’s a nice man, a smart man, but God help us if he becomes president….what has he ever run? The staff at the DDN ought to be ashamed of themselves…..what a rag.

Perhaps McCain could select Tom Ridge… With plastic wrap and duct tape for all.

Does Rep. Portman have the name recognition to help the ticket?

Do we even know if McCain is really coming? What is the procedure for attending this type of rally? Does the public have to be screened for weapons by law enforcement? How long will that take? Are protests allowed - if a permit is obtained?

Is anyone else scratching their head, thinking, “How the heck is McCain going to fill the Nutter Center, VP reveal or not”? I know it’ll be his 72nd birthday and everything, but Dayton’s not exactly McCain Country… think back to July 2004 when Kerry chose Dayton as a “reveal city” to introduce Edwards. Kerry visited Dayton twice (a second time for a big rally at Fifth Third Field in late October), while Bush stuck with Cincinnati.

I keep seeing that McCain’s coming to the Nutter Center but they (rudely) say they don’t know a thing. Can you tell us where to get tickets, if that’s how we approach this rally?
