Palin cancels trip to Dayton
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, has canceled this week’s fundraising trips to Dayton and Cincinnati. Palin was to appear at a private fund raiser in Dayton on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
The cancellation is related to Sunday’s wind storm that led to a state of emergency in Montgomery County and Warren Counties.
“Due to the state of emergency, and to avoid a possible diversion of personnel and resources, Gov. Palin’s visits to the Cincinnati and Dayton areas have been postponed to a later date,” said Paul Lindsay, campaign spokesman. “Tomorrow’s rally in the Mahoning Valley will continue as planned.”

OMG, some of you people on here are acting worse than the people in New Orleans did with Katrina. We should all be self sufficient enough to NOT have the gimme gimme gimme welfare mentality. I, for one, am appreciative that she postponed her plans. Let’s focus on getting through this, getting power back on, and trees out of houses before we worry about raising funds for either political party. Oh, and btw, this whole thing with the windstorm is bad, I’ll give you that, but it’s not bad enough to warrant half of the attitudes that have come from it. It was high wind and most of the damage came from falling limbs, and falling trees, nothing worse.By GWBequalsWPE

Sarah Palin Knows Foreign Policy Look how close Alaska is to Russia! Sarah Palin Knows the Bush Doctrine Isn’t it about shaving down there? Sarah Palin Knows Iraq She got close once and saw it. Sarah Palin Knows Education She’s been to 6 colleges in 6 years! Sarah Palin Knows Executive Decisions Having run a state with a population the size of Anaheim, CA for less than two years. Sarah Palin Knows Government Waste She collected 27 million dollars in earmarks while mayor of a 9000 person town in Alaska. Sarah Palin Knows The Bridge to Nowhere She said yes before she said no, and then kept the money! Sarah Palin Knows Scams And paid herself thousands of dollars to live at home. Sarah Palin Knows State Business And apparently so do her children, to the tune of a $50K+ travel and expenses tab picked up by the taxpayers. Sarah Palin now knows Abstinence Only education doesn’t work. Well, maybe she doesn’t. But she does think it’s the only sex education your children should learn. Sarah Palin Knows Sexism It’s sexist when it’s applied to her, but its not when it’s applied to Hillary. Sarah Palin Knows Creationism And wants to teach it to your children as an equally plausible alternative to the theory of evolution Sarah Palin Knows Books And wants to ban the ones she doesn’t like from your local library. Sarah Palin Knows Rape and Incest And believes the victims should be forced to bear the child. Sarah Palin Knows Welfare Alaska receives more money from the Federal Government than any other state of the Union. Sarah Palin Knows Country First But she believes in Alaska First and supports a group that wants to secede from the Union. Sarah Palin Knows George Bush And wants to continue his policies for 4, 8? 12? 16? more years. Sarah Palin One 5-time face cancer, 72-year-old man heartbeat away from the Presidency. Think about that when you go to the polls.By Ethel S.

Did anyone forget when John McCain delayed the RNC Convention and had the delegates prepare care packages for the Gustav Hurricane victims, Sen. Obama said he was not going there because he would get in the way of the emergency efforts. Double standard?By nullJohn

I am completely appalled that Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, canceled her visit to Dayton because of the power outages that occurred Sunday as the result of hurricane Ike passing through. Mr. Bush is touring the southern region of the country, inspecting the damage and lending moral support to our fellow countrymen who suffered tremendous loss from this horrendous natural disaster. I agree with Beth that the planning had already been done for the trip.By Jim Jordan

The good news is that her visit is postponed to a later date, after folks can get a better idea of the campaign. We can better assess if this shiny new object is really worth the distraction from the issues. The allowance of more research time for voters can only hurt the campaign. Seeing that the GOP is running on a platform of ‘change’ from the present GOP administration, McCain is counting on the ‘idiot-vote’ demographic. Lets all pray that the voters become enlightened before November and before any future fundraiser for these jokers.By Justin

So you folks who are celebrating her decision to NOT visit a crisis zone mean to tell me that EVERY TIME a figurehead goes to a disaster site (no matter the size) it cost that area resources? Get real! She could have done what IMPORTANT PEOPLE do in the case of an emergency: Call attention. Unify. Get the spirit up. Instead she canceled plans. Regardless of your political agenda, that just looks wrong.By Hippo

Several thousand people have lost power in the region, and it’s tough right now. However, I don’t think we need to act like everyone should be out to help us. We have a mild climate that is not posing any serious risks to us right now. Our emergency infrastructure is functioning, whether on back-up power or not. Let’s get the job done and get back to functioning properly. We don’t need more help or more problems, just patience. Eye heart PalinBy Hippo

Its a shame everyone is ditching Palin for canceling plans. We don’t need our resources interferred with just for fundraising. She’ll be back to see Dayton at its worse, you don’t need a wind storm to see that. Or some of the “morons” that blog this site.By Jaime

Kudos to Palin for postponing a fundraiser here for now. When Strickland visits it’s one thing - he doesn’t have the Secret Service following him around. By the way the police aren’t restoring power but they ARE dealing with accidents from people who can’t treat a nonworking stoplight as a 4-way stop, looters where alarms are not working, directing traffic, and responding to people calling. She will be here, she’s just trying to avoid creating more problems. And I’m still seriously thinking about voting for Mickey Mouse who will be running with Goofy.By BJ

I feel her intent is genuine and appreciate the gesture of not using up valuable resources at this time. Honestly, I was still undecided until the Palin announcement. From the main stream media to this blog, the representation of the Dems is astonishing. I cannot vote on the side of ignorance.By Beth

Folks, the visit was already planned. Any security plans that needed to be made had already been made. Palin has not yet been identified as a high security risk that would necessitate substantial police forces. In addition to the fact that most recovery work is being performed by DP&L and contractors, not police officers, Palin’s visit could have brought needed attention to an area that has been overlooked in light of what is going on in Texas. I’m no political expert, but it seems her GOP status could have influenced some of the higher-ups to send more federal money perhaps to help fund the assistance of local Guard units to help get power restored or to assist the police. You’ve seen the damage in our area. The rest of the country hasn’t. Palin’s visit would have ensured they did. Just seems like a questionable judgment call.By meme

Leadership at its best? I hope this is no indicator of what happens should she get elected. Just turn your back and go somewhere else. That really shows your care and compassion for the masses you want to represent as a politial leader. So what there’s no electric in places, maybe a good taste of what many are living everyday with would bring more attention to the needs of this country’s homeless, etc.By meme

I’m not a Palin fan, but before people start criticizing her, I think you need to understand what is involved for local police when a candidate visits a city. It’s not just secret service who handle the security. Every police department in each city she goes through must submit a security plan which includes officers to provide security. Those officers are needed to help take of issues this wind storm caused, not protecting a VP candidate. Yes, it would be great for one of them to see up close what has happened here, but not at the expense of the safety and security of our local people.By Heather

I think this was a mistake. She could have come and seen how the Dayton area is struggling and embraced the people of this town. Huge screw up. I think she should have come and rolled up her sleeves and helped cut down a few trees. Would have been an excellent photo op. It makes me second guess her “the the going gets tough” attitude. Maybe it is all a show.By Heather

Let’s be reasonable with our comments here. Would it make sense to fly into an area where people are being asked not to drive or where much of the electricity is not in service? No, give Palin a break. Worse yet, flying into a place where your staff may not be able to stay? Folks, you need to think before you write?By Dak
