Boehner calls Obama a barnyard name

U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-West Chester, is a McCain man in the race for president and doesn’t think much of Democrat Barack Obama.

That was apparent on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when Boehner stumped for fellow Republican McCain at the Brick Street Bar and Grill in Oxford and used a barnyard term to describe Obama.

According to the Miami Student, the newspaper at Miami University, Boehner complained about Obama’s practice of voting “present” rather than “yes” or “no” while in the Illinois Senate.

Here’s what Boehner said, according to the paper:

“In Congress, we have a red button, a green button and a yellow button, alright. Green means ‘yes’, red means ‘no’ and yellow means you’re a chicken shit. And the last thing we need in the White House, in the oval office, behind that big desk, is some chicken who wants to push the yellow button.”

Don Seymour Jr., a spokesman for Boehner, explained it this way in an e-mail:

“Boehner’s point was that Barack Obama consistently avoided making tough decisions and taking tough votes, and voters need to know that. You can’t take a pass on a tough issue when you’re President of the United States.”

Obama campaign spokesman Tom Reynolds had this response:

“It’s sad that John McCain and his supporters are closing their campaign with increasingly angry, desperate, false attacks instead of offering up a single thing John McCain would do differently on the economy than George Bush.

“Barack Obama can handle four more days of John McCain’s attacks, but the people of Ohio can’t afford four more years of the same failed policies.”

University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato said in an e-mail that Boehner was out of bounds:

“That’s completely inappropriate and rude, far beneath a congressional leader. The individual he is describing with an obscenity may be the next President with whom he will have to work.

“Politicians often wonder why they are held in such disrepute. Here’s a prime example. We expect more from elementary students.”

According to the Web site FactCheck.org, Obama voted “present” 129 times in his eight years in the Illinois Senate, a little more than 3 percent of his total votes.

OFFENDED BY HEARING THE WORD CHICKEN S**T FOR 10 SECONDS ??? … How about listening to ‘God damn America” for 20 years ??? … or, hanging out with anti-American Marxists, racists, terrorists and crooks for 20 years ??? It seems that those voting for Obama are able to equate a careless statement or two with a completely empty career, with very bad associations, and policies which will turn America into a defenseless Socialist third world country. It seems that the judgement of these commenters to weigh what’s REALLY IMPORTANT, is about equal to that of Obama’s … scary !

Ethel, since your admonishment yesterday - I’ve been on the look out for any unfair sexist criticisms of Gov. Palin. I didn’t have to look far - did you catch SNL last night? Some guy named McCain was just flat out dissing to Governor. Somebody should write that sexist so and so a nasty letter! Hypocrisy - thy name is the McCain Campaign.

Ethel - okay fine, then what was the Bill Cunningham shot at Sen. Obama a few months back at a McCain rally? Religious fearmongering? But you’re right, that’s not as bad as racism? Waahh?!?! Please don’t give me the poor pitiful martyr stuff - I don’t know anybody who has any problems with Gov. Palin’s gender. My problems are with the fact that she is unfamilar with what the job of Vice President entails, that she thinks the VP “is in charge of the Senate”, that she is breathtakingly underprepared for the job. I have real concerns about the fact that she has recently been criticized by an ethics investigation in her own state. I can’t understand how she can criticize Sen. Obama’s “share the wealth” statements when she has gone on the public record as stating that’s one of the great things about the state budget in Alaska. On her public record alone she has been hypocritical and uninformed.

I have no problem with his comments, in fact, they are fitting. He spoke the truth, and like most Dems, they cannot stand that word. Wake up America before it is too late, Nobama is not good for the country. Wrong man wrong time in history to place someone of his charachter in this office. Genuine Fraud, very deceptive, and most of all very ignorant and gloats. Not worthy of my vote in this lifetime. Wake up America! A vote for Nobama will be the death of this country!

You missed the point, Rob. The McCain supporters have not and will not use the race card and the Obama supporters should do the same and not use sexist remarks or names like “Caribou Barby.” The simple idea is equal recognition, rights and treatment for all USA citizens. Obviously, your candidate has failed to inspire you to show respect to Sarah Palin and her gender. Since it is so wrong to use either racial or sexist derogatory terms, then it would greatly advance equality of all Americans if you outright reject such talk.

The last post of “Caribou Barby” is the worst form of sexism I know and all you pious Dems need to renounce those hateful names. The “trickle up” theory of economics proposed by the Dems is a one way street to poverty. And the Do Nothing Dems have been in charge of Congress for the past two years and what have they accomplished? Vote McCain/Palin for results!

Sure - ignore DDN and the Miami Student (which if there is a more consevative campus in the country I don’t know where it would be). Maybe check with Colin Powell - who used to be your Republican Secretary of State and endorsed Obama. Or maybe Paul Krugman, this year’s Nobel winner in economics. repubs - “bondage” - really? Hey Mike, you need to get your facts straight. Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law, but it sure as heck wasn’t his baby. That “brain” child belongs to the first George Bush. Bill Clinton urged voters to consider Four Points in choosing a President: Philosophy - Obama’s organizing philosophy is that America works from the ground up, not from the top down. Policy - Obama’s policy ideas on the economy, education, health care, and energy are right for America now. Decision - Obama has demonstrated superior decision-making skills, e.g., his choice of Biden for VP, and his careful informed response to the financial crisis. Execution - In organizing and conducting an historically successful election campaign, Obama has demonstrated key talents as an executive. … Clinton asked people to present these four ideas to voters until Election Day.

McCain = Senile Bush ….We can’t afford to elect a senile president with an unqualified vice president. We need a president who is smart and on top of his game. Colin Powell’s endorsement of Obama shows that he is ready to lead. McCain doesn’t even know how many houses he owns!

Experience is important. But so is judgement and excellence. McCain has shown neither, in spite of his experience.

Ben - at the end of the day, is that all you have to sell? Fear, that is? Let’s toss around labels like Marxist and see if we can scare somebody. I have yet to hear Sen. Obama or Biden suggest we have a classless system where we have one pay scale from a centralized government where garbage collectors get the same wage a brain surgeons. All the guy (Obama) said was “redistribution”,and Republican shills have that replacing the Constitution with Das Kapital. Come on - you know better! All he has proposed is repealing a lot of the Bush tax cuts (why are we cutting taxes when we’re fighting an expensive war anyway?) and going back to a code more representative of the Clinton years. No Marxism there - my friend, just a clear headed executive decision that you don’t agree with. Just leave it at - you don’t agree. Unless your argument really isn’t better than “be afraid”.

By Rob

November 1, 2008 11:15 AM | Link to this

Jim - what about the current system is not “mandatory redsitribution of earnings”? You work (presumably), and you pay taxes to the federal government. The same federal government in a move proposed by Secretary Paulson and approved by Congress designated over 700 billion of those tax dollars be allocated to people and organizations who not only did not earn them, but arguably did tremendous damage to our economy. The executive leadership of most of these organizations (AIG, Shearson, etc.) are also the really big winners under President Bush’s tax program. Sure, a lot of folks got a $300 check in July. But do you know that those filers with over $1 million in income (less than 1% of Americans) got fully 25% of the allocated Bush tax cuts. Frankly, when Boehner ran the House, his proposal gave 40% of the tax benefits to the wealthy. Contrast that with the Senate version of the bill, which allocated 8% of the cuts to millionaires, and 33% to people with declared earnings of between 100 and 500K. And what have the Bush tax cuts from 2006 done for the economy? Recession? The longest economic boom we’ve had - the 1990’s - remember that? Here’s a fact -President Clinton taxed the rich at about the rate Obama is proposing we return to. And the economy grew! Heck, grew - it boomed!

By Ben

Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism. Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism. Both men shrug off accusations of liberalism. But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student. He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34. Obama’s affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles. “To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully,” the Democratic presidential candidate wrote in his memoir, “Dreams From My Father.” “The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists.”

The republican “trickle down economics” model is a failure. It is not the job of the middle class to support the upper class. And, it is not up to the government to support the financial market. The republicans are the socialists. But, they are giving our country the worst parts of socialism.

It’s stunning the way GOP proles goose-step in file behind their ‘leaders’ like Boehner and other corporate shills, when it clearly isn’t in their interest. Since none of you nitwits make over $25k, let alone $250k, you will get MORE $$ in your pocket from Obama’s tax plan. The corporate tax rate in the US is 35%. But due to loopholes created by Boehner and Co., corporate America pays under 15%. Jobs go overseas b/c corporations don’t want to pay YOU a working wage when they can pay someone in India a fraction of YOUR pay. Yet you buy into the GOP party line again and again, voting against your own economic interest. Amazing!

Well, as had been said, Since Cheney was able to tell a member of congress, “go fk yourself”. I say it’s only fitting that I am able to tell Boehner, “go fk yourself” And, in reality, Boehner cannot object. I have been posting off & on that the McCain campaign needs to explain Obama’s redistribution of wealth. Tell people who think Obama is going to fix things for them, help make their car payments, mortgage payments, etc. like that one person said about Obama after a rally THAT under Obama’s plan, if they get anything at all, it will be about $500 a year, $1000 per family per year. That will not help them much at all AND they are likely to lose their jobs and not be able to find new ones due to business being taxed more and laying people off or not expanding their businesses. Which would you rather have? A job (under John McCain)? Or $500 a year and the distinct possibility of no job? Maybe even a depression? Please pass this around so people can understand.

All I can say is at least he was there to hit the yellow button. McCain was too lazy to walk across the hall in March to vote on the budget. Look at McCain’s record if you’re going to look at Obamas. McCain has barely been there at all!

“Null” said “Gee, Jim, are you reading Obama’s baseball card?? Stats don’t lie but they don’t tell the whole story either. The guy bats LEFT, throws LEFT and he is LEFT. I think your #’s are a little skewed. (LEFT).” Please explain to me how actual numbers and actual statistics can be skewed left..or right? I got my facts from the above story and the link to factcheck.org 129 is 3% of 4300 for Democrats AND Republicans. OH WAIT..I forgot…. Republicans don’t care about actual statistics they like to make up their own. My bad..I forgot.

The republicans have admitted their responsiblity in this mess. It is the Democrats - Barney Frank, Pelosi, and Dodd that still REFUSE to admit there part. McCain has offered over and over how he is different from Bush. His record shows that. Boehner is a great Rep for us and has worked very hard for us. You need to quit spreading your lies and hate and watch CSPAN so you know the real truth. Barney Frank is the most unrespectable and unprofessional and he is a democrat.

null - the first rule of holes is, when you’re in one, stop digging. So I’m wrong and Rep. Boehner “wasn’t there for the full session”. WTF? How is running out of the room when a tough vote is coming up more noble and honorable than sitting down and voting “present”? Sounds like John Boehner ran away to me. That sounds pretty chicken s$#t to me. By the way - I’m not wrong about him making sure to vote FOR the bailout, and the fact that Fidleity Investments contributed $49K to his 2006 campaign, and The Securities Investment association contributed $21K. Good Lord, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange gave his campaign $16K. Last time I checked, Chicago ain’t in Ohio district 8.

Julia - lookit, the current administration “spreads the wealth”. They take taxes from you and me and then transfer that money to Haliburton and others to run the current war of adventure in Iraq. I don’t know where you got your numbers, but by Obama’s plan effective tax rates only increase for 5% of all filers - those earning over $250K. Your only real issue with redistribution is with who gets the money - and you certainly don’t want struggling Americans to catch a break, right? Unless they work for Haliburton?

There is NO yellow button in the White House

By Shawn

October 31, 2008 4:56 PM | Link to this

There is a yellow button for a reason. Obviously voting present is a acceptable and expected response, otherewise there wouldn’t be a yellow button. The fact that the yellow button exists tells you its customary and acceptable. Id rather have my politician abstain from a vote than vote yes or no on something perhaps he doesnt know about or hasn’t read. Wake up people. how many of these laws do you think your legislators actually read? they vote how they are told to vote by the party leaders and whips. and if you want to blame someone, blame the public and negative campaigning. Perhaps Obama avoided some particular votes because he knew the GOP would twist it and use it against him. you would have some tv ad saying Obama voted “Yes” on such and such without giving a full explanaiton of what the law really meant. these votes are prearranged by the party leaders and whip. he would vote when his vote was needed, but if his vote wasn’t needed, then he would abstain. its how it works. both sides do it.

Out of Obama’s mouth has come the words “spread the wealth.” He wants more taxation on all income levels to give to the bottom 40% who don’t pay taxes. When Bush tax cuts expire in 2010, Obama will not re-instate them. These tax cuts cover the middle class. This is a tax increase on the middle class by default, but Obama lies and doesn’t tell us that. He lied about public financing for his campaign. In my experience, if you’re lying over here, you’re lying over there…

I guess Rep. Boehner should know all about the “present” vote, since as recently as Oct. 3, 2008 he cast a “not voting” on the unemployment benefits extension bill. And we know he was in town that day, he managed to vote for the bailout package the same day. Had he not done that, he’d had some ‘splainin’ to do to his large contributors at Fidelity and the Securities Industry Assn. Talk about merde du poulet - n’est pas?

Any member of any American congress, whether state or national, should never vote present. I do not care if its a republican or a democrat. We the people, who actually run the country, deserve elected officials who actually do their job.

Boehner is an honorable man. When the democratic congress went home on a break just as the economic crisis occurred, Boehner stayed on with others in an attempt to work on solving the problem.. Nancy Pelosi left to TRY to sell her book which was a flop.

129 times he voted “Present” which is 3% of the TOTAL votes. That means he DID vote yes or no 4171 times. Four THOUSAND, one HUNDRED and Seventy-One times he hit the RED or the GREEN button. Only 129 times he hit the yellow button. To me that seems about right… given 4300 issues to consider, I can see how a person would not think ALL of them are voteworthy….and only a meager 3%..come on..those republicans are getting very desperate, aren’t they?

I am sickened by the constant, desperate attacks from the GOP talkers. They have little to say for their past actions, take no responsibility for our current situation and have no new ideas to heal our nation. John Boehner has voted against my interests over and over again. Letters to his office expressing my dissent are obviously ignored since I have received responses weeks later thanking me for my interest and support! It is time to boot the aristocrats out of office and support candidates who are actually interested in helping Americans and rebuilding our role in the world.

Why is it that the Democrats have not fielded a viable candidate against Boehner? There is someone running against him this year, but there has been no campaigning that I know of and I live in the district. I had no idea who was running against him. Surely the Dems can come up with a qualified candidate who can run a campaign!

OMG. This is the man we elected to represent out state? Present means they want to say yes but the bill isn’t perfect in their eyes. Like the late term abortion vote that Obama voted present on. He wanted to vote yes to ban it but they refused to put in a stipulation that would allow it to save the mothers life. If “John” doesn’t know this, maybe it’s time he was replaced. Obama 08

Boehner and the rest of the republican party have lost their cool completely, and are now showing us all their true colors. This kind of behavior is unfitting of anyone elected to represent us. Look out, Johnny Boehner, you’ll be next on the “Run the right out on a rail” campaign.
