Two polls give Obama the edge in Ohio; a third calls the race a toss-up
Two polls released Monday morning give Sen. Barack Obama an edge over Sen. John McCain in Ohio with 24 hours before the polls open.
A third, an automated telephone poll by Public Policy Polling, said the race in Ohio has tightened considerably over the last week and is now too close to call.
That poll found Obama leading 50 to 48 percent over McCain after leading 51 to 44 percent a week and a half ago. The poll found Obama lost ground particularly among white voters, going from trailing 49 to 46 percent a week ago to now trailing 55 to 43 percent.
That poll also gave a lead to Democrat Richard Cordray in the race for Ohio Attorney General, with a 50 to 38 percent lead.
Elsewhere, the Quinnipiac University Poll gives Obama a seven-point lead - narrower than a week ago. And the Ohio Poll, taken by the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Policy Research, goes even further, calling Obama the “likely victor” in the Buckeye state.
That poll found Ohioans support Obama 51.5 percent to McCain’s 45.7 percent.
The Quinnipiac poll, of swing states Florida and Pennsylvania, found Obama leads by 10 points in Pennsylvania, but is within two points in Florida.
In Ohio, Obama, a Democrat, leads Republican McCain 50 percent to 43 percent, down narrowly from a 51 to 43 percent lead last week.
The Quinnipiac poll found Obama leads among early voters in Ohio, 64 to 26 percent. Among all likely voters, women back Obama 57 percent to McCain’s 34 percent, and men back McCain 51 to 43 percent.
Quinnipiac also found McCain leads among white voters 48 to 45 percent and among evangelical Christians 59 to 34 percent.
Obama leads among black voters 96 to 1 percent, and among independent voters, which back the Democrat 48 to 44 percent.
Fifty-eight percent of Ohioans, meanwhile, consider the economy their top issue, and 53 percent of Ohio voters say Obama would be more effective than McCain in working with Congress on that issue.
The Quinnipiac poll, of 1,574 likely Ohio voters, was taken Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent. The Ohio Poll, meanwhile, included 1,308 probable voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percent. And Public Policy Polling surveyed 1,208 likely voters from Oct. 31st to Nov. 2, and the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.

Eli Jones is a liar and a charlatan. He posted some crap about Trinity United Church of Christ’s vision statement. Here’s the real one: Mission Statement Trinity United Church of Christ has been called by God to be a congregation that is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that does not apologize for its African roots! As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family. We, as a church family, acknowledge, that we will, building on this affirmation of “who we are” and “whose we are,” call men, women, boys and girls to the liberating love of Jesus Christ, inviting them to become a part of the church universal, responding to Jesus’ command that we go into all the world and make disciples! We are called out to be “a chosen people” that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable. The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution! W.E.B. DuBois indicated that the problem in the 20th century was going to be the problem of the color line. He was absolutely correct. Our job as servants of God is to address that problem and eradicate it in the name of Him who came for the whole world by calling all men, women, boys and girls to Christ.By Newt

Annoy the Media: Go Vote And the ‘Common Sense Effect’ by Newt Gingrich (more by this author) Posted 11/04/2008 ET Today marks the end of one of the most dishonest, relentlessly one-sided campaigns of bias and distortion by the mainstream media in American history. The latest tactic in this elite media campaign has been to declare the presidential race over in an effort to discourage some voters from going to the polls. After all, if Barack Obama has already won, why should supporters of John McCain even bother to vote? But this election won?t be decided by Keith Olbermann, or CNN, or the New York Times. It will be decided by you. So annoy the mainstream media. Remember 2000. Remember how close it was. Remember how every single vote counted. Go out and vote. Now. The Bradley Effect vs. The Common Sense Effect The same biased media that has declared the presidential race over has also (just to be sure) come up with a rationalization in the event that their candidate loses. They call it the Bradley Effect, after the former Mayor of Los Angeles Tom Bradley?s unsuccessful bid to be governor of California in 1982. A late election poll had Bradley, an African-American, ahead, but he went on to lose the election. His supporters and others in the media blamed his loss on the so-called Bradley Effect: the supposed tendency of voters to tell pollsters they are voting for a minority when, in fact, they refuse to once they get in the voting booth. The Bradley Effect has been widely discredited (see here and here). But that hasn?t stopped Obama partisans in the media from assuring us that the only way Senator Obama can lose is through the Bradley Effect. In other words, the only thing that could explain an Obama loss is the fact that America is a society of closet racists. Our Choice Today Doesn?t Have Anything to Do With Race But I have another theory to describe the choice Americans face in this election — call it the Common Sense Effect. The choice we face today doesn?t have anything to do with race. It has to do with which candidate believes in wealth creation and which one believes in wealth redistribution. Which candidate believes in limited, effective government, and which candidate believes in unrestrained, liberal, big government. Which candidate believes that the hard work and ingenuity of incentivized Americans can solve our energy needs, and which candidate believes that government taxation, regulation and litigation is the way to go. It?s critical that this point be made now, before the results are in: If Senator Obama loses the election today, it won?t have anything to do with the so-called Bradley Effect. It will have everything to do with the Common Sense Effect. Senator Obama in His Own Words: ?If Someone Wants to Build a Coal Power Plant ?.It Will Bankrupt Them? But don?t take my word for it. Take Senator Obama?s word for it. Consider the choice that faces us today on the issue of America?s energy independence. And consider Senator Obama?s recently uncovered statements about how he would solve this problem. As my new book Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less and my new film, ?We Have the Power? (buy it here) point out, America is the Saudi Arabia of coal. We have vast, untapped coal resources, and clean coal technology will allow us to use those resources to stop sending hundreds of billions of dollars a year overseas to buy oil from countries that hate us. But listen to what Senator Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle in January about America?s coal industry: “If somebody wants to build a coal power plant they can, it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” Senator Obama in His Own Words: ?Under My Plan?Electricity Rates Would Necessarily Skyrocket? In the same interview, Senator Obama went on to say: ?Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket?even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I?m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas?you name it?whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations. That will cost money?they will pass that money on to the consumers. When Obama Arrogantly Talks About Bankrupting the Coal Industry, He?s Talking About Bankrupting Whole Communities Senator Obama?s idea of solving our energy problems seems to be to inflict pain upon American consumers — and to pronounce a death sentence on American producers of coal in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. When Senator Obama off-handedly and arrogantly talks about bankrupting the coal industry, he?s talking about bankrupting entire communities; shutting down the industry that produces the jobs and the tax revenue that fund schools, hospitals and roads. These are Senator Obama?s own words, spoken 10 months ago to the mainstream media but only now being heard thanks to the work of independent bloggers. This is the choice we face today. We Don?t Know Which Candidate Will Win, But We Know the Mainstream Media Has Already Lost I began my message to you today noting that coverage of this election has been among the most dishonest and one-sided by the mainstream media in American history. We don?t yet know which candidate won the election, but we do know this: The mainstream media lost. The examples of bias and distortion that have occurred are too numerous to list here. Suffice to say that when a supposedly unbiased media organization polls its staffers, and the vote is 55 to 1, something is deeply wrong. When honest reporters are embarrassed to admit that they?re journalists, something is wrong. When the nonpartisan Project for Excellence in Journalism finds that negative articles about John McCain outweigh positive pieces by four-to-one, and positive pieces about Barack Obama outweigh negative pieces by two-to-one, something is deeply wrong. Going forward, center-right and conservative Americans will have to work even harder to reclaim the media and to create new ways to communicate with our fellow Americans that bypass the mainstream media. We?ve already had some significant successes, including this newsletter. I thank you for the ideas, energy and optimism you have shared with me through these messages for the past two and a half years. Regardless of who wins tonight, I?m sure you share my belief that we will honor our political process, respect our new leaders, and move forward with the cheerful persistence that Ronald Reagan taught us. But for now, grab a friend — grab a couple friends — and go out and vote. Your friend, P.S. If you?re still not convinced of the need to go out and vote, consider this: Amid reports of homeless people being able to list park benches as addresses in order to cast ballots, there are reports that many of our men and women serving overseas are having problems casting absentee ballots. Go to the polls today for those who fight but can?t vote. P.P.S. Last Friday I discussed my new book, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, at the American Enterprise Institute, where I detailed a three-pronged approach to creating a responsible energy policy. First we have to maximize our domestic supply of all energy sources. Then we need to adopt an ?across the board? strategy to encourage efficiency and innovation. Finally, we have to incentivize technological breakthroughs with prizes and tax credits. As Senator Obama?s comments on coal illustrate, current elites in Congress have an ideological imperative to increase the cost of energy. But only with a responsible, pro-growth model will we be able to weather the current financial storm and promote energy independence, all while decreasing the cost of energy for all Americans. We created a YouTube video addressing this critical difference, which you can watch here. And the full speech is also available at newt.org.By DD is 2 faced and stupid

Your candidates have consistently lied since he began running for office. He is a racist, an admitted felony drug abuser, he is friend to terrorist and despot leaders around the world. Your candidate has done NOTHING in his life that can be used as a good example. The only reason he is where he is, he’s black. Period. If he was white with this background he wouldn’t have made it off the bench.By Eli Jones

Dr James Cone’s Description of BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY, from his book “BLACK POWER AND BLACK THEOLOGY”, used as the basis for the vision statement of Obama’s Church, Trinity United: “Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community… . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.” Among the Obama’s charitable donations in 2007 was the generous amount of $26,270 to Trinity United Church of Christ.By Annie

A Mason-Dixon survey in Ohio, the state that gave George W. Bush victory in 2004, recorded a surprise two-point advantage for the Republican. Mr McCain has just finished a two-day bus tour through the state, which the Republican has to win if he is to have a chance. He is scheduled to visit a staggering seven states today, holding a series of rallies mostly in airport hangers in a bid to hit local television news bulletins. The 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran showed on Sunday he was in no mood for quitting. “There are just two days left, two days,” he told a raucous crowd in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. “We are a couple of points behind in Pennsylvania. The pundits have written us off just like before, but, my friends, the Mac is back!”By alamom

Where is a article on this newspaper website about Obama’s statement on coal? I guess I can’t find it because it shows the real Obama. John Hinderaker says that it would be interesting to know when Obama last set foot in the Senate. Since he has been running for President for pretty much his entire, brief time in Washington, one can ask whether he was ever really a Senator at all. Then there is this pathetic effort to defend his own lack of executive experience: “Well, my understanding is that Governor Palin’s town of Wasilla has, I think, 50 employees. We’ve got 2,500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. You know, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month. So I think that our ability to manage large systems and to execute I think has been made clear over the last couple of years.” Apparently Obama hadn’t heard about Palin being Governor of the State of Alaska, which has a budget in excess of $11 billion annually and more than 24,000 employees. Also, on Obama’s theory, the act of running for President gives you the experience you need to qualify to be President. That’s convenient for a guy who has accomplished so little in his career in public life. If our intrepid reporters could focus on something other than Bristol Palin for a moment, maybe they would notice that Obama continues to make a fool of himself on a near-daily basis.By Obama Truths

In January 2008 the National Journal published its rankings of all U.S. senators — based on how they had voted on a host of foreign and domestic policy bills — and rated Barack Obama “the most liberal Senator of 2007.” “Obama’s [foreign policy] liberal score of 92 and conservative score of 7 indicate that he was more liberal in that issue area than 92 percent of the senators and more conservative than 7 percent,” the researchers explained. In the area of domestic policy voting, the study found that “Obama voted the liberal position on 65 of the 66 key votes on which he voted … [and] garnered perfect liberal scores in both the economic and social categories.” The leftist organization Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) similarly rated Obama’s Senate voting record at 97.5 percent. By contrast, the American Conservative Union (the ADA’s ideological antithesis) gave Obama a rating of 8 percent. Around July 19, 2007 — after slightly more than five months had passed since he had declared his presidential candidacy — Obama clearly became far more focused on campaigning for his White House run, than on performing the legislative duties for which he had been elected to the U.S. Senate. From that date through May 22, 2008, Obama voted on just 34 percent of all the bills that came before the Senate. On the other 66 percent, he cast no vote of any kind, either for or against the legislation in question.By 4 ohiovoter

Obama respects the power of ‘capital’ and what it can do to lift our country out of the hole created by short sighted energy policies, poor Republican fiscal management, and expensive misdirected foreign policy. A $150 billion “Manhattan” energy project is precisely the kind of turbo-boost we need to secure our nation’s economic future, create new jobs, create new industries, and to end our dependence on foreign fossil fuels. This is a matter utmost importance for our national security and for the economic well being of our future generations. We cannot afford to fall further behind the curve. An Obama presidency will focus and channel our national efforts towards energy self-sufficiency for the long term. Entrepreneurship will flourish. Barack Obama’s “handlers” started their campaign by making perceptions of reality, which in reality, were false and untrue, appear to be reality. That has occurred throughout the campaign, but it will fail tomorrow, when Senator McCain is elected our President. These strategies of lies and manipulation began with Hillary Clinton and the Iowa caucuses. Caucuses are unlike a singular voting forum. In a caucus, you are in the public, like a debate, among many many groups of people attempting to reach a collective census. To defeat Clinton. Obama’s handlers did a shell game. They imported his followers from other states, Illinois most notably and the midwest, where they went to the caucuses as if they were actually Obama supporters residing in Iowa. They actually did npt reside in Iowa, but the caucus attendees did not know that. He won by an act of deception and has been on a roll since. That’s the basis of his campaign—-deception. He creates a perception of a non reality trying to convince others it is reality. That’s why he did the stunt in Germany, and spoke to 200K people, just a stunt to create an illusion. When he has large crowds, they are his paid workers and his volunteers. They aren’t “real” supporters. The race is even, but he has already planned and said there will be 1M at a party in Illinois. His intent, as planned by the handlers, is to suppress voters, to create the false perception out of deception, why bother, its over. But guess what Ohioans? He has been revealed to be a fruad and his tactics laid open for all to see. The Wizard of Oz had the curtains pulled. In spite of the lies, deception to create a perception they hoped would become reality, it failed. We are too smart for that, an Obama loses tomorrow. I can’t wait to see the tears from the MSM and the millions of his paid workers crying at the Hyatt in Chicago tomorrow night. Take it from Texas Ohioans….they know when its all cowboy hat and no cattle every time. We get it, and he’s a phony. Tomorrow ends the run of the fictional movie from Hollywood, “Obama is Our President- The Change Agent.” Why did he fail? Because change and hope have no meaning, and we Americans recognize a con, don’t we!By To Lesliesamoron

You know, they’re saying nice things about — about their — their, in this case, their husbands. I mean, that’s what you expect. And— and that doesn’t make them suddenly targets. The question he was responding directly to was “What about John McCain’s campaign has disappointed you the most?” And look at what he said!?!?!? NOT a uniter?!?!? He could NOT have gone farther out of his way to be gracious to the campaign and let them off the hook! What is your native language? Because in English - he couldn’t have been more clear. And for every “poor pitiful us” you want to shoot at the treatment of the McCain campaign, the Obama campaign can see you one and raise it. I mean, just read some of the filth and vitriol below. But you really have to twist the English language to turn that exchange into whatever you’re trying to turn it into.By GDubya

this is especially for you ROB, enjoy: I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, even if you’re too stupid to leave a city that ’s below sea level and has a hurricane approaching. I could say more about your insane belief that government, not your own wallet, is where the money comes from. But I’ve come to the conclusion that were I to do so, it would sail right over your heads. So I quit. I’m going back to Crawford. I’ve got an energy-efficient house down there (Al Gore could only dream) and the capability to be fully self-sufficient for years. No one ever heard of Crawford before I got elected, and as soon as I’m done here pretty much no one will ever hear of it again. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to die of old age before the last pillars of America fall. Oh, and by the way, Cheney’s quitting too. That means Pelosi is your new President. You asked for it. Watch what she does carefully, because I still have a glimmer of hope that there are just enough of you remaining who are smart enough to turn this thing around in 2008. So that’s it. In an interview with CBS anchor Katie Couric broadcast Monday on CBS News’ The Early Show, Obama said that what most displeased him about the nearly 2-year-long contest were attacks launched by Republicans against his wife, Michelle. “There’s a Republican or right wing media outlet … that went after my wife for awhile in a way that I thought was just completely out of bounds,” Obama told Couric. “I would have never considered or expected my allies to do something comparable to the spouse of an opponent,” he added. “They support their spouse, but generally they really should be bystanders in this process, even if they’re campaigning for me. … I mean that’s what you’d expect. And that doesn’t make them suddenly targets.” This statement by Obama says it all. The man is not a uniter. You believe him or you will feel his rath. Cindy McCain was viciously attacked by his allies. Sarah Palin and her kids and her spouse were viciously attacked by his allies and so was Joe the Plumber. Left wing radio talk show host even threatened Joe the Plumber. Obama says nothing he does nothing and says nothing. He permits this treatment of others that do not think like him. Now you know what his Civilian National Security Force is about.By Rob

Leslie - see there, that’s not so hard! Thanks for putting the whole quote in proper context. Now you know what his “civilian national securoy force” is. He’s not creating anything new - he’s asking the Peace Corps to double in size and AmeriCorps for 75,000 new positions. Further, within the context of the full quote - Senator Obama’s belief is that our national security interest can equally be served by building schools Uganda, maintaining hospitals in Kosovo, or establishing power service in Costa Rica. But we need at least as many people doing that as we are currently using to try (rather unsuccessfully - through no fault of their own) to pacify Iraq. The reasoning here, as has been offered in those speeches you mention, is that the world can be equally swayed by the might of our example, and not simply the example of our might. You can look that up, too - if you want.By lalaland

When Obama speaks change, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Change. I get a tingly feeling running up my leg. Change. I will be happy to get money he takes from rich people and gives to me. Change. Never mind we won’t drill for oil. Change. When I can’t afford gas, I will ride my bike. Change. When we can’t build nukes, I will use candles. Change. Everyone in the world will be our friend. Change. We will welcome everyone into our country. Change All will be well. Change. We shall serve Obama. Change He will be eager to accept our service. Change. Soon we will become completely dependent upon him and the government. Change. I will have no more wants or needs.change. And we shall serve him, and we will be happy … and controlled. I see you all have not lost your fight : GOOD! Because we have a lot to do. You! (the American people) are going to have to take back control of your elected government at every level, and set your government back on the right path of service to you, and the greater good of the World. Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope of doing that now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best they can. Because the Bush McCain vote fraud, vote cheating, vote buying, vote manipulation machine is already hard at work to cheat you again. And we all know what a disaster that has been the past 8 years of Bush McCain. Barack Obama and the democrats will need all the power you can give them at every level of government (Federal, State, County, and local City elected governments). Obama and the democrats will have an enormous mess to fix for the American people, and the rest of the World. A mess caused by the corrupt Bush McCain administration. You see, starting back in 2000, and before 911, it was mostly the Republican governors, Republican legislatures, and county elected Republican officials that conspired with the corrupt Bush McCain administration to raise college, and university tuitions by the fastest, and highest rate increases in American history. Some state tuitions went up by as much as a WHOPPING! 30% in one year. The reason the Bush McCain administration did this was to force struggling working class kids into the military to pay for the sudden jump in tuition. Which was forced on them by the corrupt Bush McCain administration, and their corrupt Republican Governors, and republican controlled state legislatures. See, Bush McCain had plans to get us into all these immoral, foolish, criminal, and unnecessary wars from the start. So they could use these wars to seize power, and later to get reelected. But, for their evil plan to work they needed more volunteer soldiers struggling to pay for an education whose blood they could spill to help them seize more power. Remember Bush McCain’s “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!” theatrics. The exploitation, and lost lives of these finest Americans is despicable, disgusting, immoral, corrupt and criminal. And it makes me SICK, and ANGRY! You will have to vote for Obama, and the democrats in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush McCain vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help your fellow Americans cast their votes on through election day. Vote for Obama, and the democrats like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of “Let Them Eat Cake” Bush McCain, and their republican allies. Just look at the mess we have now. You can fix this mess with your votes for Obama, and the democrats. But you must continue to surge forward for Barack Obama, and the democrats, and for your-selves most of all. The children, and the World are counting on us. It’s in your hands now. And I know you will get it done. God bless all of you. JACK SMITH - WORKING CLASS… :-)By Disgusted American

Obama promised to increase AmeriCorps slots from 75,000 to 250,000 and pledged to double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011. “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.” He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle and high school students. For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students that would be tied to that level of service. He said it in a speech in Iowa last December and he said it in Colorado this July. It was in the Chicago Tribune.By Rob

Gdub - and by the way, based strictly upon syntax, grammar, and condescension - I have no reason to believe this is actually not the sitting POTUS - thanks for taking time out from cookie break with the rest of the constitution ignoring gang to play our game. If being a junior Senator from Illinois automatically disqualifies a candidate as capable, then I imagine you would have hated Abraham Lincoln, who was also from Illinois but had even less political experience. And with all due respect to your goofiness - if he has no experience in foreign policy, why is Dubya’s former Secretary of State - Colin Powell, endorsing him? If he’s such an economics ignoramus, why would Warren Buffet endorse him? I think I’ll take their commendation over yours. Pakistan - you mean Osama Bin Laden’s last known address? You mean that place where even Gen Patreus says we may have no choice but to put boots on the ground in Balochistan and tribal areas since our “allies” aren’t doing jack? Dude - not only did we not sleep through high school, LOTS of us went to a magical place called college and learned a few ins and out of geopolitical reality. Heck, some of us have even BEEN to the places you talk about and list as being particular problems. But one bit of goofiness stands out more than the rest. We “won” the communist “war” - whatever that was. Not sure the kids in North Korea, China, and Cuba would agree with you - but it’s beside your wrong point. I assume you refer to the collapse of the Soviet Union. It wasn’t our spending and magical “tech” that did it. It was simple math - the Soviets had about one ethnic Russian to stick behind a rifle and try to hold about 200 Ukranians, Turks, Georgians, Latvians, Estonian, etc. hostage. They couldn’t cover the field in Central Asia - forget North America. Dude - right now we have a military budget 78 times Iran’s - and Obama has never advocated cutting off Israel. Iran is about as much of a threat to you and me right now as Romania was in 1965. Now you be a good little poster and go make some more stupid stuff up.By david k

Being president is about more than inspiring Americans. It’s about leadership. The choice between McCain and Obama comes down to one of experience. Where Obama is sound over substance, McCain is confident based on experience and a broad understanding of leadership. In short, he’s been tested. Obama has not. We need a President with experience. We need a President that we know can protect our country, not one that we hope will be able to.By Squirrellygirl

Our country has been bad. Very very bad. We have murdered babies and call it abortion. We want something for nothing. We don’t want to work, we want free handouts. We want to rationalize that we aren’t racist by voting for a black man even though we really don’t know who he is. We have closed our eyes and ignored the signs that he may not be who he says he is. God has allowed us to be deceived by this man because we would not look at the truth. We have allowed our own personal greed to become bigger than our love for our country. We have taken this country for granted. We have decided God has no place in our lives. This is why we can’t see—we have been blinded. We are under Obama’s spell. Ethel - I’d be a little more careful about praising Leslie’s “careful research”. So far she hasn’t presented anything I suspect she didn’t get from Joe Farah at worldnetdaily. The telltale factoid was the nonstory “story” about Obama’s “plan” for a secret civilian national security force. There is no such thing and Mr. Farah knows it. Basically, what happened there was Joe couldn’t be bothered to listen to the entire comment in context and has subsequently been unable to determine why nobody else in the media will listen to him scream “the sky is falling”. But hey, it keeps people visiting his website. Little more info about Joe -he coauthors books with Rush Limbaugh, which is not to suggest anything other than anybody would have a valid claim to question his “unbiased” credential. Also, the only time the guy (Farah) was tapped to run a print newspaper, the Scaramento Union, he ran their subscription base down 30% in 15 months till the paper went bankrupt. He also as recently as 2004 had a fairly low opinion of your candidate, Senator McCain. He basically blasted him for being a bad soldier and questioned his patriotism. While I agree there are LOTS of issue with Senator McCain, one is most certainly not the man’s love for or service to his country.By GDubya

Now some of you morons want to be led by a junior senator with no understanding of foreign policy or economics, and this nitwit says we should attack Pakistan, a nuclear ally. And then he wants to go to Iran and make peace with a terrorist who says he’s going to destroy us. While he’s doing that, he wants to give Iraq to al Qaeda, Afghanistan to the Taliban, Israel to the Palestinians, and your money to the IRS so the government can give welfare to illegal aliens, who he will make into citizens, so they can vote to re-elect him. He also thinks its okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons, and we should stop our foreign aid to Israel Did you sleep through high school? You idiots need to understand that we face a unique enemy. Back during the cold war, there were two major competing political and economic models squaring off. We won that war, but we did so because fundamentally, the Communists wanted to survive, just as we do. We were simply able to outspend and out-tech them. That’s not the case this time. The soldiers of our new enemy don’t care if they survive. In fact, they want to die. That’d be fine, as long as they weren’t also committed to taking as many of you with them as they can. Obama Fan - you are wrong so as you requested I will correct you. McCain voted against same sex marriages. They can do what they want as far as I’m concerned to, but marriage is a unity between a MAN and a WOMAN. There are so few abortions as a result of incest and rape, it is hardly a point. Each individual case should be dealt with between a woman and her doctor, not a slaughter house that rips innocent babies limb by limb and leaves them to die in the trash can. Get REAL! Lesile, I already know that low income families can get food stamps and health care for their children. The government of Ohio is NOT taking care of me. I also know that the government of Ohio is helping low-income families pay their rent and heat. State governments nationwide are having budget problems including the state of California who has a republican as governor. So if you don’t like the way Washington is treating you as a tax-payer write to your senator or congressman to demand change in Washington. I also saw an ad stating that when the female workers for Wal-Mart wanted equal pay, John McCain voted with corporate lobbyists and it wasn’t by Obama’s campaign. Idiotsfor - oh my lord, the Bush/Rove filth just will not die! Listen, I can’t believe I’m doing this but - I’m sticking up for McCain on this one. I am assuming the source of your allegations is from the 2000 South Carolina presidential primary, where the Bush/Rove team decided to smear Senator McCain with the tripe you quoted (his wife is a drug addict) - which is a lie and you know it is. Other lies against Senator McCain were he fathered a black child out of wedlock (not true, he had adopted a Bangladeshi orphan), that he was closet homosexual (which think about it for a minute, how could he be gay and father all those kids?), and (the worst one) that he was a secret commie who had been brainwashed in his ‘Nam captivity and was at least mentally unstable and at worst would deliver the country to our enemies. Listen, my disgreements with Senator McCain are purely policy based. When it comes to his plans for the Presidency, he has either poor plans or incomplete and ineffectual plans. But, Senator McCain has been a good and decent public servant. Don’t smear him with lies. And by the way - for McCain supporters who might be gloating about now - those of you who have been lying with equal frequency and tenor about Senator Obama (He’s not a citizen - He’s a muslim - He’s a terrorist). You might consider what your candidate, John McCain had to say about people who lie about and smear candidates to try and scare voters - he said about those liars in Feb. 2000 “I believe there is an especially dark corner in hell reserved for such people”. I hope he’s right.By Truth

McCain’s run for Presidency is strictly an ego thing. He needs this to validate is life/career. He is use to getting through life based on his status. He picked Palin for his VP so he could be the headliner. He could have picked a Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, Rudy Gulliani but he didn’t because those guys had asperations of being President. It saddens me to learn that all this time that I’ve been fighting for equality and race issues that it has been in vain. It hurts me to learn that all this time that I thought color wasn’t an issue that deep down it really was. These are the same things that were fought against in the 60’s. I was taught and believed that a man should be chosen for his beliefs and that his skin color was NOT an issue. This is what I’ve taught my children! I’m very glad to know that my savior Jesus Christ doesn’t see color at all in any situation. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. My bible tells us that homosexuality is wrong”Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. (Lev 18:22)Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor 6:9-10) It is wrong and that the murder of innocent babies through abortion is wrong. Genesis 9:6 (NIV) 6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. Voting for any man of any color because of the color of his skin is as wrong today as it was in the 50’s and 60’s. My savior Jesus Christ died on a cross 2000 years ago. So I will be voting as a Christian today. I’ll be voting for McCain.By christians for mccain

McCain is a liar, adulterer and his wife is a drug addict husband stealer. This man doesn’t know whether the economy is sound or if we are in a crisis. Lesile, you aren’t hitting a nerve in me and whatever you say about Obama will NOT change my mind about him. What is McCain going to different from the Bush administration? You really must be afraid of change by giving your opinion about Obama. My family has the same opportunities that Obama has. My parents went to college, my sisters also went to college, and my brother-in-law has a college degree and is self-employed. I have been following Obama ever since he announced his candidacy for president. You just want to believe what you hear about Obama. My three oldest nephews are college educated and my oldest niece is attending college right now. Everytime I come in here, you always have a negative opinion about Obama. I am not brain-washed or hypnotized by the Obama campaign. I recently spoke with a registered voter last night on the phone who informed me that we, as a nation, need a change in our government and Obama can bring that change. I also don’t have blinders on. I also don’t need an Obama administration to take care of me financially. I have seen where this country has gone in the last eight years under Bush administration and it has been downhill. An recent tv ad, shows an unemployed woman saying that John McCain has voted with the Bush administration to ship our jobs overseas. John McCain wants to put social security in the private sector and tax our health insurance. John McCain recent called college students a “special interest group”. Barack Obama wants give tax cuts to all americans whether they make $200,000 or $250,000, he wants to make health insurance more afforable, he also wants to find new renewable energy sources to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and he also wants to make college education more afforable to the children of America. Obama doesn’t want to overturn Roe vs Wade unlike McCain who wants to overturn Roe vs Wade. I watched the three presidential debates and I didn’t hear one thing that McCain will do differently then Bush. You can believe what you want to believe about Obama but it doesn’t change my mind. We will see tomorrow night if the rest of country has the same opinion about Obama that you have.By Leslie

The job losses in Ohio and the high cost of living in Ohio is due to Ohio government! What is the majority of government in Ohio? Democrat. We already have good entitlement programs. Did you know that low income people with kids already get free healthcare? Did you know that they already get food stamps and have enough to feed their family? Did you know they already get their rent paid and the heating bill paid? The problem is not that we need more entitlement programs, the problem is we need to reform them so that they are there to help people in times of need, not to support them. Giving them a $1,000 or more check a year is not going to do that. It’s not going to make them say now I have what the Jones have. Now I have as much as Obama. They need to work for that. NYC we do not have a draft. Every soldier overseas is fighting because they want to because they believe in what they are doing. What do you mean, “The America most of us grew up in is gone.” It’s still here and the best country in the world. If you want to keep this great country America land of the free and opportunity then you need to vote for McCain. His 22-year Senate record shows John McCain to be a consistent advocate of smaller government, which also translates into more freedom. He and legions of other realists know that unless and until the federal appetite is reined in, it will weigh down the economy — making solutions to challenges such as affordable health care, energy independence and broader education opportunities far less likely. Of all 100 members of the U.S. Senate, John McCain has resisted the siren call of cash from lobbyists, of legal but stinky dealmaking. Obama would enlarge government for one reason: He sees a greater government presence in each of our lives as helpful. He is sincere in that belief, but he is wrong. Government can’t do more to solve problems until it cleans up its fiscal mess — and Obama has no plan to do that.By To Lemmings

Patriotism should be loving your country like a parent loves a child. We love then even when they do wrong. It is our job to help them be better and learn from their mistakes. Our government has become too paternalistic and we have allowed ourselves to be infantilized and infants don’t like change. If we start to accept our responsibilities as adults and teach responsibility and self-reliance to our kids there will be far fewer abortions. I think everyone knows abortion is wrong. I think everyone knows that killing innocent civilians is wrong. We need to take responsibility of OUR children and OUR country. Every woman who gets an abortion is someone’s daughter and every soldier is someone’s son or daughter. We don’t need our government to make these decisions for us. If you want to be proud of your country you also have to accept some responsibility when things go wrong. That is being an adult. Let’s grow up and fix what is wrong and stop blaming each other. Let’s act like adults and make the sacrifices necessary to give our children a better life.By NYC Kid

Why are McCain supporters so angry? Change is coming and you can either accept it, adapt to it, or hang on to your fear and anger. This country is going to change a lot in the next ten years. I am asking those of you who vote for McCain to give the new Democratic government a chance. This is a crucial turning point in history. Both Obama and McCain have traveled around Ohio for more than a year and have seen how bad things have gotten for average people. A great deal of damage has been done to our economy . Our standard of living has fallen and we are working harder for less. The challenges are great and the stakes are high. The America most of us grew up in is gone. We have to change to adapt to the new world in which we live. The expansion of the middle class and the growth of unions created a golden age in America. Can we get that back? I hope we can give all Americans a chance at a better future. The fist thing we need to do is to bring this country back together, We have been so divided by emotional issues like abortion and the war that it will take a lot of work to put the fear and anger behind us. We need to realize that the concept of patriotism is has been distorted. Why is unpatriotic to ask a question? I think the best way to support our troops is to send them overseas ONLY when it is absolutely necessary. Our country has been wrong, and probably make more mistakes in the future. It is our job as citizens in a democratic society to work to keep our nation on the right path. We have to accept our failures and learn from them.By Tomas

How in God’s good name can you equate abortion to war? First of all, when we go to war, it is usually because a rogue dictator is slaughtering a group of people in the name of “ethnic cleansing.” Secondly, the brave men and women of the US military (which my son is) volunteered for duty, in part to defend morons like you the right to free speech.By Rob

Leslie - I’m certainly not insulting you, and I am agreeing with a central point in your last post. As I will take Senator McCain at his word, I take Sen. Obama at his. Senator McCain has promised to LOWER taxes for EVERYTHING - all income brackets plus corporate taxes plus capital gains. Senator Obama has promised to lower taxes only for those filers decalring $250K in wage income and less. For corporations, taxes remain largely the same and for individuals with capital gains and earnings over $250K, effective tax rates rise. The way the federal budget works is NOT like your bank account. You don’t put money in and then get it back after April. Any “tax cuts” must be PAID FOR. Senator McCain has said he will cut all spending to pay for his tax cuts. Senator Obama has noticed stuff like the bridge on I-35 falling into the Mississippi river, and Amtrack trains flying off the rails in the Arizona desert and said - you know, I don’t think letting the interstate highway system collapse from lack of maintenance so we can give another million dollar tax break to Donald Trump is a good idea. All the Obama tax plan recognizes that in a regressive income tax environment, you can’t really hit the middle and bottom percentage of filers for too much more. Now Senator McCain has stated publically that he wants to stay in Iraq “until we win” -whatever that means - to the tune of about $18 billion a month AND he wants to cut taxes for everybody at the same rate the Bush Administration has. Those are “the word” of both candidates. In the current environment, I suggest that warren Buffet is correct - Senator Obama’s plan is more realistic and fiscally responsible. Now on a note of personal opinion - I don’t expect an Obama adminstration “to take care of me” I can do that just fine, thank you. But I do expect them to make sure highways don’t fall in rivers, civil liberties are not broached (a la the Bush Adminstration’s abuse of FISA), and they comport themselves in amnner befitting a truly great nation.By Disgusted American

Lesile, Where in the world are you getting your facts about Obama? I agree with Obama fan you have been watching so many McCain ads that the ads have brainwashed you. Are you so afraid of change that you insulting people that are supporting Obama/Biden? We need a government that will fight for all of us whether we are white, black, hispanic, latino, asian-american,male, female, old, young, gay, straight, or lesbian, and that is what Obama is going to bring this country. What you are saying about Obama doesn’t make any sense to me because you have no evidence to back up your claims. I will wait and see what happens tomorrow night before I rub it in about Obama.By Rob

Bitter - “Palin has accomplished much and Barry ahs accomplished NOTHING”. Please, don’t let facts interfere with your dellusional point. Senator Obama has graduated from both Columbia and Harvard Law School. Now I know those degrees are not as prestgious as a BA in journalism from the University of Idaho, but you couldn’t exactly call those non-accomplishments. While Gov. Palin was busy finishing second in the Miss Alaska contest, Senator Obama was being named editor of the Harvard Law Review. Once again - maybe not the kind of accomplishments you prefer from your elected officials, but he has accomplished at least as much as your subject for comparison - Gov. Palin. When you speak the truth you get insulted. Called a liar. I am telling you what I hear him say in his speeches. I listen to his speeches and I read his speeches. I also have listened to his interviews in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. I have seen him and listened to him on CSPAN. I have read Dreams of My Father. From all of my research he is manipulating the public for his own agenda. You can fawn all over him believing he is going to take care of you, but I am not easily hypnotized and I want questions answered that noone gets answered. That is not what America is about. You don’t take McCain’s word - you expect proof from him. But Obama, you take him at his word, with no proof no evidence, no record. Again under Obama’s tax plan a single person will get $500 how does that give a single person anymore opportunity than they have now. We are a free market capitalist country we are a good country with opportunity for all. You may want a change from the Bush Administration, but that does not mean we need to change America. Are you so desparate for that $500 or $1,000 (married) that you are willing to give up your freedoms?By annie

God help us if McCain and the Monty Python Circus get into office. We Are DOOMED. McCain’s latest jingle is Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran. We need to end this war and take care of the people in this Country. For McCain and Palin it is WINNING at any cost. That would be the WAR, slandering Obama with lies, the same fear based ideology from the right. We need unity. Obama has shown he can handle these slures, and has gotten stronger, more focused. Yeah Leslie- still not making sense. Gas prices were high and can go up at any moments notice just as easily as they went down. People will have a hard time paying heating bills this winter there was a 2% increase with Duke and even though gas for us has came down we will stay pay more for it to heat our homes. I personally will get 1600.00$ from tax cuts but I don’t depend on the government to give me the American dream. As far as Bush nationalizing the banks- McCain voted for that pork filled bill. How will McCain change anything? Again, where are your sources? I saw Obama last night at Nippert Stadium. There were young, old, black, white, Asian, Jewish, Indian, all kinds of people there. “Obama does not want you to have the same opporunities he had. ” “Obama says we need to change that people don’t have these opportunities. ” I think you’re making this up. TerrifiedofObamaMuslim, Obama is NOT a muslim. Obama is Christian. His father was Muslim but Obama is 100% Christian. You can believe what you want to believe about Obama but I know the truth about his religion. You can go to www.barackobama.com to get the facts about his religion. I am Christian and I am not terrified of Obama possibly being our next president. People in this country should not be afraid of Obama just because of his religion. The reason that I have already cast my vote for Obama is that I looked past the people that he associated with in the past. The other reason that I have already voted for Obama is that he can offer all Americans hope unlike McCain, who wants to continue the policies of Bush Administration. Obama is NOT a con artist. Look at his record during his time as a state senator for Illinois. My two sisters who have seven children between them are voting for Obama/Biden. Obama said he wants to spread the wealth around to ensure everyone has the same opportunities. This was in his speech. Everyone in America does have opportunities. That is what America is about. Land of the free, land of opportunity. A single working person will get $500 from the taxpayers under Obama. What opportunity does that give them? How is that making that persons life better? Each citizen has the opportunity in America to move forward already. Last night he said gas prices where high and it is getting difficult to pay our electric bill. Huh? That’s not true. Obama is dividing this country because he is telling people that all businesses are selfish. Do you all want government jobs. Do you want the government to own everything and there be no private business? Bush is nationalizing things now. McCain will get those things back to the private sector quickly, Obama will keep them. Obama does not want you to have the same opporunities he had. Immigrants that come to this country and manage to get ahead and have success are greatful to this country and very happy with this country. Obama says we need to change that people don’t have these opportunities. Read is speeches and think about what he is saying and maybe if you take your blinders off you will see that Obama will make it very hard for citizens to obtain what he has.By Amazed

The general consensus among the media and political observers is that Barack Obama is favored to win the presidential election Nov. 4. A large part of that consensus is based on polling data. But can the polls be trusted? Could the race be closer than most assume? An Associated Press-GfK poll out Wednesday showed John McCain and Obama essentially running even among likely voters in the election homestretch. The poll found Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent. In sharp contrast, an ABC News/Washington Post poll out Thursday gave Obama an 11 point lead among likely voters (54 percent to 43 percent). How can two polls released one day apart be so different? “It depends on whether the poll is completely random,” said Robert Hardaway, professor of election law at the University of Denver Sturm School of Law. “Even if you’re trying to figure out what 100 million people’s preference is, as few as 500 or 1,000 people polled can give a pretty accurate result if those 1,000 are chosen completely at random. “Without complete randomness you’re not going to get a completely accurate result.” Hardaway said the methodology of picking the sample is one of three factors that can affect the accuracy of a poll. For example, some polls might not accurately account for young voters who only have cell phones instead of landlines. Another factor is the way questions in the poll are asked. “We all know that how you ask the question can make all the difference in the world,” Hardaway said. The accuracy of polls becomes even trickier as Election Day draws near. News organizations rely on polling data, particularly exit polling, to help project the winners of the presidential vote in each state. If the exit polls are flawed in some way, as they were when John Kerry was projected to beat George W. Bush early on Election Day in 2004, then they could be unreliable. “I was not surprised that the results of the exit polls did not match the actual results (in 2004),” Hardaway said. National Election Pool (NEP) is the group the major national news organizations use for their exit poll data. NEP said it has changed its methodology to prevent similar problems in 2008 and get a more random sample of voters. One challenge that is getting more attention this election is early voting. The ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 31 percent of likely voters plan to cast their ballots before Nov. 4. “If you only do exit polling on the day of the election, you may only be polling a certain percentage of the electorate,” Hardaway said. “So if you’re not polling the early voting, then you’re going to get a skewed result for that reason alone.” NEP said it plans to rely more heavily on phone polls conducted prior to Election Day to compensate for states with large early voter turnout. Hardaway indicated there’s at least one problem with basing media projections on exit polls that are inaccurate. The projections create an expectation, and if it turns out to be wrong, some might be inclined to believe there was wrongdoing. “The fact that the exit polls don’t agree with the actual results is probably the least important indicator of fraud,” Hardaway said. Hardaway made sure to point out that as a general rule, there should probably be less emphasis on polls by the media during an election. “Most people know enough to take them with a grain a salt if for no other reason that they don’t ever agree,” Hardaway said.By Bitter American
