Rep. Seth Morgan mulls run for state auditor
With incumbent Republican Mary Taylor now expected to run for lieutenant governor, state Rep. Seth Morgan, R-Huber Heights, said on Wednesday, Jan. 13, that he is “exploring” running for the GOP nomination for auditor this year.
Like Taylor, Morgan is a CPA - Certified Public Accountant.
“We’re going to continue to look at the best way to serve the people of my district,” Morgan said. “We are exploring a potential run for state auditor.”
Morgan said that he was interested in “carrying on the professional legacy” of Taylor.
Taylor is expected to be named the lieutenant governor running mate of GOP gubernatorial candidate John Kasich as early as Thursday, according to a key GOP insider.
Morgan, 31, is serving his first term in the Ohio House. Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper is the Democratic candidate for auditor. The filing deadline is Feb. 18.
Morgan’s entry into the race would give the Dayton-area three statewide candidates. State Sen. Jon Husted, R-Kettering, is running for the GOP nomination secretary of state, and former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine of Cedarville is seeking the GOP nomination for attorney general.
Both auditor and secretary of state have special importance this year. That’s because both are members of the Apportionment Board which will draw new state legislative lines after the 2010 census. The governor also is a member of the the board, along with a legislator from each party.
The party that wins two of the three statewide offices in November will control legislative redistricting.
House Speaker Armond Budish, D-Beachwood, on Tuesday signaled that it’s unlikely the legislature will agree by a Feb. 3 deadline to put a proposed constitutional amendment on the May 4 ballot to replace the Apportionment Board with a more bipartisan plan for redistricting.

After reading this I took the liberty of looking into Morgan. He is a true fiscal conservative. David Pepper is by no means a fiscal conservative! He catered to public unions by voting for a tax increase while County Comissioner rather than accepting budget cuts (which would have led to inevitable staff reductions). David Pepper increases taxes on his constituents in a recession. Morgan orchestrated one of the only municipal tax CUTS in Huber Heights history! This guy looks like one heck of an auditor candidate.

What is the Ohio Republican Party thinking? What a stupid idea. Rather than have an incumbent run for reelection, we are running a guy who could not even win the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office in 2006.

George - your IP address looks suspiciously familiar. Plus, your nose is even a bit browner than usual. I'm with arniez - Morgan's personal alliances in Hubertucky are just too dangerous to for any good, especially in an elected office where ethics are especially important.

You have got to be *&^%ing kidding me! I’ve been in business meetings with Morgan. This guy is as dumb as a box of hair. It’s not that he doesn’t understand 2+2, but just doesn’t understand finance, business, banking. He opens his mouth to say something and the other people in the room just fall silent, not knowing if he’s kidding about what he’s just said, or if he’s really that stupid. He must have paid someone for his CPA, because he…just…doesn’t …get…it! AUDITOR?!? C’mon, you’re kidding, right?

Seth, is a good guy and good state rep but he’s not ready for state wide office. If he moves forward with the state auditor run he’ll loose to the more experienced and fiscally conservative Dem,David Pepper.

WOW! Mary Taylor with John Kasich is an absolute dream team for not just Republicans but all of Ohio. Seth will make a great Auditor but the people in his district will miss his hard work and personal dedication to his current position.
