Mike DeWine foe baffled by ballot ruling

The battle for the GOP nomination for attorney general might not be over after all.

The campaign of Hardin County attorney Steve Christopher is trying to figure out how the final tally released on Friday, March 5, by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner showed that Christopher turned in just 638 valid signatures to get on the May primary ballot for the Republican attorney general nomination, said Mark Lucas, a campaign spokesman.

It takes 1,000 signatures to qualify and Brunner ruled that only former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine of Cedarville turned in enough signatures to get on the ballot for the GOP attorney general nomination. Brunner made the determination on which candidates qualified based on information provided to her by county boards of elections.

A work sheet from Brunner’s office showed that county boards of elections received just 788 total signatures from Christopher’s campaign and 638 were valid. Christopher turned in petitions with a total of 2,700 signatures, said Lucas.

In an e-mail on Saturday, Christopher’s wife, Jill Christopher, said the campaign is determining what step to take next.

“At this time, we are optimistically waiting to review and audit the signatures. We have not received any official word regarding the validity of the signatures. We will be conducting an internal audit and verification to vet the signatures we did obtain,” she said in the e-mail.

“At the time that we vet the signatures and obtain official word on why the signatures were rejected, we will make a determination and advise everyone as to the direction we will take.”

Jeff Ortega, a spokesman for Brunner, said he was not aware of the situation but that Brunner’s office would try to respond to any questions on Monday.

THERE IS A COPY OF RECEIPT OF THE PETITION WITH 2700 SIGNATURES. BRUNNER IS A CRIMINAL AND NEEDS KICKED OUT OF OFFICE.

First off linda, AG has nothing to do with redistricting: only Auditor, Sec of State and Governor influence that. Second, unless you have some information that isn’t in the article there’s zero evidence of this receipt you mention. Third, as much as i hate Brunner, her office doesn’t handle the count: the 88 county Board of Elections report their validated totals to her office and she counts them. Fourth, why would Brunner favor leaving a man (DeWine) who’s won statewide office multiple times, has near universal name recognition in the state and has over $1 million raised already unopposed in the primary by a man who’s never run statewide before, has no name ID, no endorsements, and no money raised? Get off the roof and come back to reality.

The people whining about this are as crazy as the stolen election people. The elections boards area each made up of two Republicans and two Democrats. So, you’re saying that Republicans conspired with Democrats to put one over on this guy to the tune of about 2000 signatures? Cue the black helicopters …

If Christopher runs, he wins. If Dewine runs, Cordray wins. It does not take a rocket scientists to figure out the politics. State redistricting is at stake. Brunner’s office gave Christopher a receipt that he turned in over 2700 signatures. Where are they now? In a trunk? An incinerator? An office? Dumpster?

Brunner knows how disatisfied conservatives are with DeWine and if she has to run against him it would be easy. He will drive people away from the polls ensuring democrats have an easier time across the board with conservatives staying home because of the lack of a real choice.

Obviously the gentleman turned in more than the number he would need, so in the vetting process, if some of the signatures were not valid, he would have more than 1000. Brunner is as corrupt as they come—I hope this story gets out before the elections. She needs to go. I hope they have copies to show the 2,700 were submitted.

While I am definetly not a Brunner fan, who is to say that they actually submitted 2,700 signatures? You would think the Dems would want a contested Republican primary, not someone running unopposed. Think about it?

I voted against that R.I.N.O. once, I would be glad to do it again!

Jennifer Brunner’s name comes up again under questionable circumstances. I wouldn’t trust anything this woman says. She wouldn’t investigate voter registration fraud charges during the last prez election, so I’m not surprised she’s messing with the system again. We need to make sure she’s voted out next election.

How do you lose 2,000+ signatures? Brunner needs to get to the bottom of this and hold people accountable for the screw up. Also I hope Christopher’s campaign asked for petition copies after they submitted them, otherwise they will have problems proving 2,700 signatures were submitted.

Even if Dewine was the only politician running for the office, I wouldn’t vote for him. His 15 minutes are up. “Move along, there’s nothing to see here.”

Thank you NoRino and Bob Weaver. My sentiments exactly. Now, has Jennifer Brunner’s office counted all the signatures for Steve Christopher to be placed on the ballot?

It is truly a shame that Mike (Rino) DeWine is the best the GOP has to offer Ohioans. I will gladly vote against him, no matter who his opponent is.

America can never change, its path to nowhere, if we keep running the same old politicians, who are only interested in themselves, instead of bringing this country, to where it was, prior to there meddling in everybodys business, when they cant even handle there own. Mike Dewine, I think you have lived lomg enough, off the taxpayers
