Welcome the Deals Team!

Seven area skilled bargain-hunters have generously volunteered their time to help all Miami Valley shoppers.

They have agreed to become members of the inaugural Dayton Daily News Deals Team, and will report on deals they spot at some of their favorite stores and others in the Dayton area.

The deals they find will then be posted on this Here’s the Deal blog and will be summarized in the Here’s the Deal column every Sunday in the Dayton Daily News.

Here’s the Deal: Sites offer discounts, codes

Since last weekend had two holidays — Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day — and this weekend has none, there aren’t as many huge sales to be found.

However, J.C. Penney is continuing its sale that began earlier this month on beauty products. There’s also a coupon for $10 to $15 off a salon purchase online and inside today’s Dayton Daily News.

That sale ends today, Feb. 22.

Also, some of the Presidents Day sales by auto dealers continue, such as General Motors and Honda, which run through the end of the month.

One-stop saving — Web style

I’ve written about couponing before — that is, using coupons, weekly store ads with Web sites to earn the most savings.

However, what I am hearing is that many readers either aren’t sure where to start or simply don’t have enough time to perform the steps they think are necessary to get to those savings.

It appears that some Web site creators are hearing of those challenges as well — and they’re responding.

In the last week, I’ve come across two sites that make finding discounts for your favorite stores extremely easy and efficient.

The first is called FreeShipping.org.

On that site, there is access to the current discounts and coupons available at more than 1,000 well-known stores, including Target, Macy’s and Old Navy.

You can search by store or category.

And that isn’t even the best part. The site also has a My Coupons tab in which you select your favorite stores from the list, and the site assembles all the sales and coupons available at those stores.

The site saves that information, allowing you to go back daily and check on the updated discounts.

Another helpful site focuses on providing the promotional codes necessary to get many online discounts.

That site is called CurrentCodes.com, and it has information on discounts from about 2,000 stores.

The site also allows you to search by store or category, and provides promotional codes for those stores.
