Indian Lake: “Muddy and rain, muddy and rain.” That’s how one observer put it. That is usually a good indicator that catfish are biting. Use chicken liver, cut shad or nightcrawlers. Moundwood has been a good spot. Crappies have been hitting minnows off of the banks around Blackhawk, Chippewa, Long Island and Dunn’s Pond.
C.J. Brown Reservoir: White bass have been caught off of rocks on minnows and shiny spoons and spinners. Crappies up to 15 inches have been caught at depths around 20-23 feet.
Clark Lake: Crappies have been hitting minnows and jigs mostly in shallow water. Fish for stocked trout with small spinners and Powerbaits.
Paint Creek Lake: The Army Corps of Engineers was dropping the lake and it might have been open by the weekend, but heavy rain on Tuesday might have changed things. Stay tuned. Spillway fishing for crappies and saugeyes has been good if you can find calm water areas.
Rocky Fork Lake: Good bass fishing has been reported. Fish around wood in the bays at depths of 3-6 feet. Shad-raps and green/pumpkin worms have been good baits. For catfish, fish the west end of the lake with cut shad and nightcrawlers. For crappies fish the deep end of laydowns with jigs or minnows. Bluegills have been hitting waxworms around docks.
Grand Lake St. Marys: Catfish are being caught all over the lake on cut shad and nightcrawlers. Bluegills are around docks and biting on waxworms. A few crappies have been caught in the channels, but the action is rather slow.
Lake Loramie: Despite the muddy water, crappie fishing is good. Fish close to the bank in about a foot of water. Use jigs tipped with minnows or waxworms. Catfish are biting all over on cut shad, nightcrawlers, shrimp and chicken liver. Spillway fishing for saugeyes has slowed.
Rush Run Lake: Anglers are still catching trout on waxworms, small spinners and Powerbaits. Catfish are hitting nightcrawlers and chicken liver.
Acton Lake: The boat ramps are open, but the lake is high and very muddy. Anglers have been scarce.
Caesar Creek Lake: Flooding continues and all ramps were closed as of Tuesday. Believe it or not, anglers have been catching white bass on minnows in the Wellman ramp parking lot. For lake info, call (513) 897-9334.
Cowan Lake: The ramps are open and the crappies are biting, but the fishermen have been few. Bank fishermen have been catching both crappies and bluegills. Catfish are hitting cut shad and nightcrawlers pretty much anywhere on the lake.
Lake Erie: The few anglers who have gone out have caught walleyes close to shore, mostly on hair jigs tipped with shiners. If possible, fish the reefs in the Camp Perry firing range or troll around the outside of the reefs.
For Lake Erie information, call (888) HOOK-FISH or visit wildohio.com.
Maumee River: The river has been high and muddy. Walleyes are being caught from Orleans to White Street access and also at the U.S. 20 bridge. For Maumee River information, visit maumeetackle.net.
Sandusky River: Walleyes and white bass have been caught. Try the Miles Newton Bridge area. For Sandusky River information, visit wildohio.com.
