The fifth-annual Adventure Summit will include exhibits, presentations, fitness classes and athletic competitions.
The event, sponsored by Wright State University and Five Rivers MetroParks, will feature 70 exhibitors from outdoor-oriented companies, clubs and organizations, and 45 workshops and presentations on all things outdoor adventure related, said Tom Helbig of the park district.
A full slate of fitness classes is offered, along with an indoor triathlon, a bouldering competition and a kayaking challenge. A wilderness medicine expo will be set up with six hours of programming, said Amy Anslinger, assistant director of outdoor recreation for the university.
Anslinger urged visitors to check out the schedule and plan to bring workout clothing for the fitness classes.
As always, everything is free — except the bouldering contest, which costs $20, she said.
Summit activities begin Thursday night, March 4, with a free screening of “Running the Sahara,” featuring Charlie Engle and narrated by Matt Damon. It will start at 7 p.m. in the Wright State University Student Union. The first 50 people, Helbig said, will get free food and refreshments from Runners Plus. Engle will be present to answer questions.
Engle will speak Friday at 8 p.m. in the student union. Some competitions begin Friday.
