Re “Booster-seat law evokes memories of road rash,” Oct. 14: I have found Amelia Robinson’s columns pretty much as she describes herself, Smart Mouth(ed), and rarely read them. I was attracted to this column because I thought she was going to encourage child safety measures. I was extremely disappointed when she more or less made fun of these measures and said they hampered children to the point of not being able to enjoy themselves.
That could not be further from the truth. Apparently, she has not read the statistics regarding serious injuries and deaths to children who are not properly protected. Her comments were so incredibly irresponsible I’m still upset a day later. I have seven grandchildren whose parents follow these rules and I have never heard them complain. The safety measures are routine for them.
Her column only encourages parents to be lazy about their children’s safety. “If Amelia said it, it must be OK.”
I am flabbergasted that a Dayton Daily News editor would have allowed this column to be published.
