I was heartened by the news of Christians flocking to Haiti with their gifts of aid, healing and service. But the Rev. Pat Robertson’s cruel comment, that the earthquake was the result of the Haitians’ pact with the devil to defeat the French, troubled me.
I am troubled about the report of Christians who opposed the voodoo priest’s participation in the national day of mourning, and by Christians who may be going there primarily to take advantage of the situation to proselytize, or remove children illegally.
As Christians, we need to be ever mindful of the need to be righteous vessels of giving. Otherwise, we taint the gift.
