The Dayton Daily News asked candidates in the Democratic primary for the 3rd Congressional District to provide a letter of endorsement from one of their supporters.

‘Knows freedom will always be under assault’

David Esrati declined to provide a signed letter of support for his candidacy. Instead, he provided this anonymous post from his website.

Everyone wants to bask in the light of freedom, but few will fight for it. David Esrati is one of those exceptions.

When guerilla theater landed him in handcuffs, Esrati took the government to court and won. And won.

Five trips to courtrooms yielded five vindications and a mountain of legal bills. A guilty plea and a fine would have been the avenue of the lazy and the cheap.

But freedom was not won or preserved by the indolent or the frugal.

As a former Special Forces paratrooper, Esrati knows freedom will always be under assault. This is the metal from which David Esrati was forged.

As a sidebar, the Dayton Daily News absolutely hates David Esrati, which means he must be doing something right.

'He was always willing to reach out to others’

This letter of endorsement for Guy Fogle was written by Corey Juniewicz-Fogle and Alex Juniewicz-Fogle.

Our dad is special and not because of the things he has given us, but because of the life lessons he has taught us.

Despite adversity, such as being diagnosed with cancer twice, he has stayed strong. He has taught us to never quit and to face life’s challenges head-on.

Our dad gives of himself in many ways. From volunteer coaching to helping in communities with things such as Relay for Life, he has helped so many.

Even when times were tough for him, he was always willing to reach out to others who needed his help.

Our dad isn’t perfect. No one is. But he has learned from his mistakes, and he teaches us to do the same.

All three of us, his sons, will be better people because of our dad.

'Will fight to bring our tax dollars back home’

This letter of endorsement for Joe Roberts was written by John Shroyer of Centerville.

Joe Roberts is an untainted, homegrown candidate, a man with palpable gumption and tenacity. Unlike so many politicians, Joe is not cynical about our government, the system and our economic situation, Joe is filled with optimism about the possibilities for Dayton and the United States.

In Washington, he will fight to bring our tax dollars back home and for jobs. He believes that we need a representative who says yes to jobs, aid, opportunities.

Joe knows what the people need. That’s because he is truly one of them.

I consider Joe a great friend, having graduated from Centerville High School with him. His love of our community and desire to help the people here would make Joe a great Democratic nominee for Congress and a great congressman. On July 13, vote Joe Roberts.
