The Dayton Daily News asked candidates in the Republican primary for Congress in the 8th District to provide a letter of endorsement from one of their supporters.

'He will not accept campaign contributions’

This letter of endorsement for Thomas McMasters was provided by Billy R. Warden, of Huber Heights.

My friend, Thomas McMasters, figures you have to start somewhere in politics. The 8th Congressional District is as good as anyplace. He is not afraid to start big. He has views on a lot of topics, including health care, the budget deficit and the political process.

He will not accept campaign contributions. This is one of his ways of looking out for the people.

McMasters has five children and a wonderful, supportive wife. He resides in Huber Heights. His children participate in sports like soccer and basketball. The family has had neighborhood cookouts that everyone is invited to attend. McMasters figures most people in office have been in it too long and aren’t really looking out for their constituents. Change is good; make the change now.

'He will represent the people of this district’

'He will represent the people of this district’

This letter of endorsement for Manfred Schreyer was provided by Ron Roth, of Eaton.

We look at the news and see nothing more than Democrats and Republicans going at each other. No consensus is reached on key issues important to us: a stable economy, well-paying jobs, health care reform, and a fiscally responsible government. Instead, our representatives are bailing out large financial institutions and representing the interests of large international corporations.

These are the issues that Manfred Schreyer feels passionate about. One thing you quickly discover about him is his honesty and integrity. Manfred listens to those who hold a different opinion. He works hard to find compromise. I truly support his decision to run for Congress because he will represent the people of this district, not a political agenda or special interest groups.

'... leading fight against pork-barrel politics’

This letter of endorsement for John Boehner was provided by Steve Bruns, president of Bruns General Contracting in Conover.

I’m proud to endorse John Boehner for re-election.

Democrats who run Washington aren’t listening to the people. They forced a government takeover of health care that most Americans don’t want. They are proposing more tax increases and more government spending that our country can’t afford.

Boehner listens to the people of the 8th District. He’s been fighting this job-killing agenda every step of the way, while offering serious proposals to lower health care costs for middle-class families and help small businesses create jobs.

He knows government exists to serve the people, not the other way around. That’s why he’s leading the fight against pork-barrel politics and offering reforms to make Congress open and accountable.
