Obama programs aim to get control

Hot Topics

If anyone thinks actions taken by the present administration and Congress have anything to do with improving the economy and health care, they should think again. This is about power.

There are many who still believe Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal brought America out of the Great Depression; in fact, he prolonged it.

True, he built some nice parkways and dams, but what ended the Depression was when the Japanese paid a surprise visit to Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941.

President Barack Obama’s stimulus program is nothing but a pork and patronage bill that borrows money from the Chinese — that our children and grandchildren must repay — to help Democrats get re-elected. These programs have never created real wealth, just wealthy politicians and well-connected cronies, and more government programs.

The health care bill being rammed through Congress is the keystone to Democrats gaining total control over the American people.

Once government controls access to health care, they dictate all else.

How's it different Ray? That wise Econ prof I had used to say perception is reality. The perception Reagan created was trust in our economic system to innovate and create and it did. With this President and Congress, not so. Business sees increased taxes, increased regulatory burdens, fines, increases in fixed costs and it gives them pause. Some might even say what's the use? Big gvmt and big bureaucracies have a way of stifling things. It takes more than speeches to create results.

and the effect of the reagan tax cuts coupled with the increased defense spending was a massive increase in the budget deficit. so reagan financed his "turnaround" with increased deficit spending. how is that any different than the increased budget deficits of today? at least the spending is being invested in our own country, not meaningless wars overseas, or handouts to energy and defense contractors.

Don't quite know what your comment was all about Dave but while I am not an economist, I did have courses from a wise economics prof (certainly not Paul Krugman) and my career dealt with the free enterprise system. I experience those years as well. At some point in the future we will have a great economic model comparison between the way Pres Reagan handled a bad economy and the current administration. Reagan believed in the free enterprise system, Obama and the Dems only believe in government.
