Ohio’s public workers are losing their rights

What an outrage. “King Kasich” and his court have decreed there will be no more collective bargaining, strikes, binding arbitration and the law requiring pay to be equal to the prevailing wage.

The reasoning is that these changes will allow employers to have “more control over employees so that they can get the most out of them.” Asked what recourse public union workers would have, Kasich said, “They have a job.”

The implication is workers should be happy to have a job and they will bow to Kasich’s demands.

We all know the state has budget problems, but public workers have already tightened their collective belts and made concessions in wages and benefits. The state cannot balance its budget on the backs of police, fire and public school teachers or other state employees.

I sincerely hope that every union in this state stands up for those at risk at this time. This is a very dangerous time for the working people of this country.

The Republicans are eroding our rights, which is ironic, because Republicans are very vocal about smaller government and keeping government out of our private lives.

Yet, they are interfering by taking our rights away. Don’t let it happen.
