Re “Lutherans breaking with church over gay clergy,” Aug. 22: I just wanted to say that I am a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Fairborn, and I am one of the members who voted to not leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Pastor Robert Forsberg declared that either you voted against homosexuality with him, because it is a sin, or he would leave our church. Many of us chose to vote against the pastor. So he left — not happily.

He took with him the entire church council. But we are doing great. We have a new church council and want the community to know that we welcome everyone.

We feel it is not ours to judge; there is only one who can do that.

I am excited about new members; we have many opportunities for song and worship. We just didn’t like being backed into a corner and having someone else’s beliefs forced on us.
