Politicians must be held to account

As the election debates begin, I wonder why our politicians promise so much, but deliver so little.

Politics has to be the one profession where the gap between saying and doing is so wide. It would appear there is no accountability.

If a doctor promises to remove your liver, but takes out your kidney, he’s sued. He’s held accountable. If your mechanic can’t repair your car, you don’t pay him. He’s held accountable.

Let’s give the next administration one year to fix (or make dramatic progress) on three problems. Let’s have them fix unemployment, drug abuse and illegal immigration. They are related.

If they can’t get the job done, fire them and let’s hire the next guy.

The American public is too accepting of dishonesty. Our politicians are a reflection of ourselves. If we find the reflection unsavory, we need to re-evaluate our jobs as voters. Slow to hire, quick to fire.
