Letters to the editor

I am a five-year air traffic controller at Dayton Air Traffic Control Tower, and I would like to publicly thank U.S. Rep. Mike Turner for showing his commitment to our community and the safety of the flying public.

The Federal Aviation Administration has recently undertaken a plan to move the radar portion of the air traffic control services in Dayton to Columbus. The FAA is moving ahead with this plan without consulting the local community, local user groups, or the air traffic controllers. Ultimately, this plan will move jobs away from our community and has the potential to make the air traffic control system less safe for those flying in the Miami Valley area.

I’m proud to say that Turner stood up for aviation safety and co-signed a letter to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, asking that the FAA put a hold on this project until it can be properly evaluated and the position of all relevant stakeholders has been considered.

Thank you, Congressman Turner, for standing up for our community and for the safety of the flying public in the Miami Valley area.
