Dayton nightclub closes again

Cloverdale, which celebrated its grand opening last July, abruptly closed last week. Club co-organizer, Mary Katherine Burnside, made the announcement from her Facebook page.

According to Burnside, the building --  located at 101 St. Clair St in Dayton -- had been up for sale for a long time. A group of investors has purchased the property and did not wish to honor any remaining events on Cloverdale’s schedule. Burnside said she was told of the sale on Dec. 31.

This is the end of yet another chapter in the location’s long history, which once operated as a diner before being changed into a nightclub under the name of The Pearl. It was later called Vex before becoming Cloverdale. There was no immediate word on what the new owners’ plan for the club is or what it will be called.
