Location & description:

Center Hill’s forested shoreline and close proximity to major metropolitan areas and and Interstate 40 make it an ideal spot for boating and skiing.

Boating

Of the 19,000 surface acres of water and 415 miles of shoreline, plenty of areas are available for a secluded tie-up. Tennessee Boating Regulations apply when boating here and all boaters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the current boating laws.

Marinas

Center Hill Lake offers nine commercial marinas that provide a wide variety of services for visitors to the lake. Services such as fuel, private boat moorage, electrical and water hookups, boat rentals, fishing and marine supplies, restaurants and snack bars, and restrooms are offered by most facilities. To encourage boaters to follow “No Discharge” policy regarding proper disposal of treated or untreated sewage, each marina provides vessel pumpout services for a small fee.

Day Fees

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Center Hill Lake charges a day use fee at selected recreation areas. The recreation areas on Center Hill Lake charging these fees are Floating Mill Park, Ragland Bottom, and Hurricane Bridge. These areas offer sand swimming beaches, playgrounds, launching ramps, bathrooms, picnic sites and picnic shelters. The fees for 2004 at Floating Mill and Ragland Bottom are $4.00 per vehicle regardless of type of use or size of group. Persons walking into a recreation area are charged $1.00 per person per day (children under 12 are free). Hurricane Bridge does not have a swimming area or a playground, and the day use fee of $3.00 is applied only to those using the boat launching ramp. Golden Age and Golden Access Passes are honored for a 50% discount on these fees.

Fishing

Center Hill Lake and the Caney Fork River downstream of the Center Hill Dam are very popular areas for fishing. Due to the cooler water temperatures released from the dam, the Caney Fork has become one of the most productive trout fisheries in Tennessee. The river is easily accessed from Interstate 40 at access areas such as Buffalo Valley, Long Branch, Happy Hollow, and Betty’s Island, all of which are located within seven minutes of interstate exit number 268 (Buffalo Valley Exit).
