First, it was pancakes. We went looking for the best and found them at the downtown White Tower diner — now, sadly, closed.

Next, it was cheeseburgers. We went looking for the best and found them, too — this time at the cheerful Cardinal Roost in Germantown. Thankfully, it's still open.

So with breakfast and lunch under our belts, still fat and slightly stupid from our previous safaris, we Leadbelly Boys — Brother Ray, Brother Jim and Brother Ron, all editors at the Dayton Daily News — somehow talked our bosses into letting us use more company funds to determine who had the best pizza in these parts.

There are waaaaaaaaaaay too many places to choose from. As in our past two hunts, we confined our sampling mostly to locally owned joints. Even ruling out the nationally owned chains, there were far too many; we took readers' suggestions on their favorites and hit 20, scattered around the Miami Valley.
