DAYTON — Word on the street, at least on the streets of London, is that Charles Spencer, a British aristocrat and the brother of the late Princess Diana, has "dumped" former WDTN-TV anchor Coleen Sullivan.

Daily Mail columnist Richard Kay reported Monday, June 23, on his newspaper's Web site that the couple is no longer living together at the Earl's historic home, Althorp, where his famous sister is buried.

"A friend tells me, 'She has gone home to America,' " reported Kay, who said the couple split 18 months after Spencer left his second wife and months after his sixth child was born.

Folks in the Miami Valley, who cautioned against Sullivan's relationship with a known womanizer when she resigned her Dayton job to be with the Earl in 2006, are probably saying : "I told you so!"

But Richard Blue, author of "Making Relationships Work," isn't at all surprised. He says chemistry rules the world.

"From Biblical times — civilizations, corporations and marriages have all fallen because of chemistry," says Blue, a psychologist for 30 years who hosts a radio call-in show in Atlanta. "Once somebody gets in your head, emotion rules over logic. Infatuation is euphoria; the molecular structure of attraction is like cocaine. She probably had to play it out."

Blue says in this case the prognosis was "guarded" because of Spencer's history. But he doesn't fault Sullivan.

"She had pain and will learn from the journey," he said. "One must go through the journey of life to get the wisdom. If life is moments and life is adventure, she did the right thing."

And, of course, Coleen could have "dumped" Spencer. Stay tuned.
