MIDDLETOWN — A court appearance for standout Middletown High School football player Dwayne "Deejay" Hunter Jr. was continued for the second time today until 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.

Hunter, 18, was scheduled to appear in Middletown Municipal Court this morning for a pretrial hearing on a single charge of felonious assault in the BB gun shooting of a teen who was struck twice in the head.

But that hearing was continued by Hunter's attorney Frank Schiavone to 1:30 p.m. and was continued to Feb. 13.

Hunter was arrested Jan. 13, a day after a 15-year-old boy was shot in the cheek and left eyelid, according to Middletown police detectives. The Middletown senior is a defensive back and a nationally ranked player this year. Hunter made a verbal commitment to Tennessee last July, but it was reported recently that Tennessee was no longer recruiting him.
