An organization out of Toledo called "Reeling and Healing" has announced a series of fly fishing retreats "for all women surviving all types of cancer."

The first will be May 17-19 at Rockwell Springs Trout Club near Castalia. The second (June 12-14) and third (July 5-7) will be held at Schmidt Outfitters in Wellston, Mich. Another retreat will be held at Rockwell on Sept. 20-22.

No previous knowledge of fly fishing is required. The idea is to provide a fun atmosphere to help women cancer victims get away from stress for a few days, while learning a new skill. Women who are being treated or have had cancer in the past are eligible.

The only fee is $75 for registration, which can be waived if the applicant shows need. All lodging and meals are paid for.

Fishing seminar

This month's Sportsman's Seminar, scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Highway Department, 615 Dayton-Xenia Road, Xenia, will feature Ohio Division of Wildlife district fish management supervisor Doug Maloney, talking about the fishing forecast for southwest Ohio.

On the nests: Downtown Dayton's female resident peregrine falcon, Dayton, is sitting on four eggs. Check boonshoftmuseum.org/falconcam for updated photos. Meanwhile, the new resident bald eagle across from Eastwood MetroPark is sitting on its nest, but it is unknown how many eggs might be there.

Boater education: The Ohio Division of Watercraft is offering a boater education course on April 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wayne Township Building in Waynesville. The fee is $5. To register or for more information, call (937) 323-1582.

Today's tip: Before your boat touches water this spring, make sure you have the proper number of approved life jackets stowed securely on board for the maximum number of people your boat will hold. Also make sure you have a properly fitting life jacket for every child who enters the boat.
