RedHawks' Bramos makes big baskets to close out Bowling Green, 66-60

OXFORD — Location may be everything in real estate, but in basketball it's timing, timing, timing.

Michael Bramos seemed to know that. After making only two baskets through the first 36 minutes, Bramos hit two back-breakers down the stretch to lift the Miami RedHawks over the Bowling Green Falcons 66-60 Wednesday night at Millett Hall.

Extras

After the Falcons had sliced Miami's lead from 13 points to five, Bramos had the ball as the shot clock was running down to just about nothing. "I tried to jump fake my man, but he wouldn't budge," he said.

So Bramos threw up a prayer. Swish. A minute later he took aim again. Swish.

Game, set and match.

"We could've lost that game," said Miami coach Charlie Coles, whose RedHawks (6-10, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) snapped a two-game losing streak. "Bramos was the man of the day. Bramos is the kind of guy Alfred Hitchcock would have loved."

Huh?

"Hitchcock would've had Bramos steal the car, then rescue the car and make him the hero of the movie," said Coles, who happens to love going to the movies.

"Bramos got us in trouble. He made two or three bad mistakes. But then he hit the two shots that won the game for us."

"Those shots were killers," agreed Bowling Green coach Dan Dakich, whose team fell to 10-7, 1-3 MAC.

Bramos, one of four Miami players to score in double figures, finished with 12 points. The others were Tim Pollitz (14 points), Nathan Peavy (12) and Alex Moosmann (11).

Falcons fight back

Miami seemed to have control after scoring on seven straight possessions late in the first half to take a 34-20 lead at the break.

Bowling Green rallied in the second half, and they did it without leading scorer Martin Samarco, who had come into the game leading the MAC in scoring with 21.8 points per game. On Wednesday, he scored three points in 16 minutes, going 1-for-5 from the field.

"That was my decision totally," Dakich said of Samarco's extended stay on the bench. "The (Bowling Green) team at the end of the half played with energy and toughness. I just made up my kind I was going with that route."

"That route" included Nate Miller, who scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half.

Rivalry Sunday

The RedHawks return to action Sunday when they face the Ohio Bobcats at home at 1 p.m.

It'll be a busy sports Sunday on campus since Miami's hockey team will play Ohio State at Steve Cady Arena at 4:30 p.m.

To accommodate the quick turnaround between games for

Miami students, the athletic department will release 1,300 wristbands after the conclusion of the basketball game. Students can receive the wristband at any of the Millett Hall exits by showing their student ID. The wristband will guarantee students admittance to the game, but not necessarily a seat.

Numbers game

Miami out-rebounded Bowling Green 37-24 and were led by Peavy, who had seven ... The Falcons, who rank among the league leaders in 3-point baskets with about seven per game, were 1-for-13 from the arc against the RedHawks.
