Friday night lights
The Miami RedHawks seem to have caught Friday night fever this season.
Extras
Miami, which plays at Ohio State tonight at 7:05 at Value City Arena, owns a 12-1-0 record in games played on Fridays.
For some reason, the RedHawks have had a tough time maintaining the momentum through their Saturday contests. The RedHawks are 5-6-1 on Saturdays, including a 1-3-1 mark over the last five.
Last season, Miami was 9-4-4 on Fridays and 13-4-0 on Saturdays.
Familiar foe
Miami doesn't have to worry about playing its Saturday slump this weekend. The RedHawks' second game against Ohio State is scheduled for Sunday at Steve Cady Arena, starting at 4:35 p.m.
Miami already has faced OSU three times this season and everything is even at 1-1-1.
The Buckeyes (9-9-4, 7-6-3 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association) have won four straight and are riding a five-game unbeaten streak.
The hottest player for the Buckeyes is junior forward Domenic Maiani, the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week who had two goals and two assists in OSU's 6-2 and 3-2 sweep over Alaska last weekend.
Still top 10
Although the RedHawks have been unable to sweep a series since the first week of December, they're still ranked in the Top 10 in all three national polls.
Miami (17-8-1, 12-5-1 CCHA) are ninth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and is ranked 10th by InsiderCollegeHockey.com and USCHO.com/CSTV.
Minnesota (20-2-3) is ranked first in all three polls, followed in the top three by New Hampshire (17-3-1) and Notre Dame (19-4-1).
CCHA nuggets
•Three of the nation's top scorers are in the CCHA, including Miami's Nathan Davis, who is fourth with 1.45 goals per game. The others are Michigan's T.J. Hensick, second with 1.58, and Kevin Porter, fifth with 1.50, and Nebraska-Omaha's Scott Parse, eighth with 1.44.
•Notre Dame has more victories this season (19) than in the last two years combined (18).
