But they sure played like it, and it was Indiana State who happened to be in the way.
The Miami University basketball team charged back from a 10-point first-half deficit and socked it to the Sycamores, 70-58, in a BracketBuster game Saturday afternoon.
Peavy scored 21 points and Pollitz cranked in 20 as the RedHawks (13-12) picked up their eighth win in the last 10 tries.
Indiana State (12-15) led 38-31 at halftime but got steamrolled in the second half as Miami scored 19 of the first 22 points and held the Sycamores without a field goal for the first 9:09 of the period.
Road rage
This hasn't been a good season for the RedHawks on the road. Coming into Saturday's game, their record away from Millett Hall was 3-10, and in the first half it didn't look like it was going to get any better.
Pollitz said it wasn't a case of getting angry at themselves, but Miami coach Charlie Coles suggested that the second-half turnaround had more to do with the players' passion than his words in the locker room.
Coles said at this time of year, he tries to be like a grandfather at halftime, "which means I've got to be a little more patient with them," he explained. If the game had been in December, Coles said, he probably would have exploded.
"In February, the team has to respond to each other," he said. "Their pride was wounded, and they responded, and it was on their own."
