Q&A with MU men's basketball player Doug Penno
Friday, February 23, 2007
Q If you could have dinner with any famous person, who would it be?
A The first name that comes to mind is John Wooden (former UCLA basketball coach). I was a big Bobby Knight fan and a big Indiana Hoosiers fan. That's who I wanted to play for. But from everything I've heard about Wooden — and my dad will send me articles that he has written, stuff I've been able to use — he's everything you could ask a college basketball coach to be. He's an amazing man.
Extras
Q What would your meal with Wooden consist of?
A My mom makes this beef and broccoli dish with rice. A baked potato is always good. And for dessert, anything chocolate — fudge, ice cream. I've got a problem with chocolate I'm trying to work out.
Q What is your favorite TV show?
A "Scrubs." It's on about six times a day. I like the honesty and sarcasm. It's unlike any other TV show I've ever seen.
Q What has been your most embarrassing moment on a basketball court?
A Any form of air ball, whether it's a spot-up three or a floater. When you don't even hit the rim or the backboard, it's a very empty feeling. But it doesn't last long.
Q Which country would you like to visit for the first time?
A Italy. My sister got a chance to live there a year or two and my dad taught over there last summer. I couldn't go, but my whole family has been there and all I hear is how much they love it.
