Miami Middletown defeats OSU-Lima
LIMA — The Miami University Middletown women's basketball team defeated Ohio State University-Lima 66-46, Saturday to advance to today's Ohio Regional Campus state tournament

Marianne Burgess, a Carlisle High graduate, led the ThunderHawks with 23 points. She also had seven steals. Erin Ponder, a Madison High grad, was next with 16 points, followed by former Fenwick High player Christen Clemens with 11 points, and Edgwood grad Shandar Musselman with 10. Clemens also had a team-high 11 rebounds and Musselman had 10.
The win was MUM's third in its last five games and second in a row. The title game will be held at 1 p.m. today on the OSU-Lima campus with MUM playing the winner between OSU-Mansfield and OU-Zanesville.
Junior skate team places fifth nationally
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Miami University Junior Synchronized Skate Team completed its 2006-07 season with a fifth-place finish at the United States Synchronized Championships at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The RedHawks posted a score of 86.48 in the free skate and moved up one spot to fifth place overall with a combined score of 137.48.
The Red and White finished 13.11 points behind the national champion Hockettes of Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club (150.59). The Colonials (150.49), who just missed winning Nationals by .10 points, finished second.
The Junior Team's score of 137.48 was its highest of the season, eclipsing its score of 135.40 at the Midwestern Championships .
The Senior Team sits in second place behind the Haydenettes. The collegiate team competes today, and is looking to defend its 2006 U.S. National Championship.
RedHawks 3-1 so far at Panera Classic
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Miami University women's softball team had its five-game winning streak ended by a familiar foe on Saturday. Miami, which had defeated Eastern Kentucky and Maine on Friday, downed Vermont by a 7-3 count earlier in the day before falling to Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green, 6-4.
Sophomore Kelly Cabana (3-2) earned the win with eight strikeouts against Vermont. Junior Halle Popson and senior Leslie Macedo each went 2-for-2 in the win.
