Extras
CLEVELAND — After batting a team-best .571 (8-for-14) and helping the Miami University softball team to a 3-2 record at the Panera Bread Classic, RedHawks freshman Briana Burke of Upland, Calif., has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week.
It is the first career honor for Burke, and she is the third Miamian this season to earn the conference's weekly honor.
Behind the hot bat of Burke, Miami posted wins over Eastern Kentucky, Vermont and Maine at the Panera Bread Classic. Burke notched at least one hit in each of the five games MU played, including three multi-hit games and three-multi-RBI games.
For the weekend, Burke put together a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage while collecting 14 totals bases. Her six RBIs were tied for the team lead at the tournament, while her eight hits and three doubles were team bests.

Jackson gets another
MAC weekly award
CLEVELAND — After posting back-to-back 20-point games against Akron and Kent State, Miami University junior guard Amanda Jackson of Springfield has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week.
It is the fourth player of the week award of this season for Jackson and the sixth of her basketball career.
Jackson opened the week with 28 points and seven rebounds at Akron, which included 17 second-half points and 4-for-8 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Jackson then followed with 23 points, including 16 first-half points, in MU's final regular-season home game against Kent State.
For the week, Jackson averaged 25.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per contest. Jackson also chipped in four steals and five assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field (15-for-32) and 46.2 percent (6-for-16) from 3-point range.
INDOOR TRACK
RedHawks place
fifth in MAC meet
AKRON — Senior Lashonda Davis won her second conference title in as many days with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash and junior Kristina Bolterstein successfully defended her conference high jump title as the Miami University women's track & field team wrapped up competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The RedHawks finished fifth in the team standings with 55.5 points as the Akron Zips (136) took home the team title.
Davis completed an impressive double-double, winning both the 60-meter and long jump titles at this year's conference meet. A day after placing first in the long jump, Davis clocked in with a fieldhouse and school-record time of 7.37 in the 60 meters, breaking her own school record of 7.44.
Bolterstein, one of the nation's top high jumpers, repeated as the MAC Indoor champion with a clearance of 5-10. The height matched her title-winning clearance of last season and was 1.5 inches better than the second-place jumper.
Junior Sarah Landau turned in Miami's other top-two finish on second day of the MAC meet as she placed as the runner-up in the pole vault. Landau tied with Jessica Miller of Akron for the top height, as both vaulters cleared 13-1 1/2, but after Miller and Landau both missed all three attempts at 13-4 1/2, Miller won the conference title by virtue of clearing the previous height on her first attempt.
Other Miamians who scored on the second day of the conference meet included senior Doreen Nagawa with her fourth-place finish in the triple jump (39-1), sophomore Katelyn Kelly with her sixth-place height in the high jump (5-6 1/2) and freshman Brittney Bernardoni with her eighth-place clearance in the pole vault (12-1 1/2).
Miami placed sixth in the 1,600-meter relay (3:51.60) and had four athletes place ninth or tenth in their respective events, just on the cusp of scoring.
