MANCHESTER, N.H. — It's a crisp 50 degrees, the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Pretty good weather for a hockey tournament.
The Miami RedHawks arrived at Verizon Wireless Arena, the site of Saturday's NCAA Tournament contest against host New Hampshire, around 10 a.m. Friday. The RedHawks were scheduled to take the ice at 11:30 a.m. for a practice session.
The Verizon Wireless Arena an ultra-modern and large facility right in the heart of downtown Manchester, which is called the Queen City..
There's a beautiful war memorial park just across from the convention center. Interspersed among old weather-beaten buildings are the modern arena and the convention center. It's a nice mix of old and new.
The press hotel overlooks the minor league ballpark for The New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball team. They're the AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and play in the Eastern League. Already, the Cats' grounds crew was busy getting the infield ready for their April 5 opener.
