Series: Miami leads 15-9-1 (Ball State won the last meeting 20-17, Oct. 28, 2006)

Ball State — Sophomore QB Nate Davis led the MAC in pass efficiency as a true freshman while sharing duty with senior Joey Lynch. The two combined for a school-record 27 touchdown passes. Junior P Chris Miller continues the Ball State tradition of outstanding punters, such as Brad Maynard of the Chicago Bears, who is in his 11th NFL season. Miller ranked second in the nation last year with a 46.3 average.

Miami — Senior QB Mike Kokal was sacked 40 times last year, but has a more experienced offensive line in front of him, and although Ryne Robinson has taken his talents to the Carolina Panthers, the RedHawks are stocked with young, talented receivers. Junior LB Joey Hudson, the best middle backer in the MAC, could have a field day against a weak Ball State running game.

Scouting report: Each team was picked to finish fourth in its respective division, but BSU has the advantage of knowing how it feels to be on a hot streak. They finished last season by winning three of four, the only loss by a touchdown at Michigan. ... Miami hasn't won back-to-back games since November 2005.
