Pass offense: A-minus
Extras
An exceptional, in-control game for Daniel Raudabaugh, who completed 67 percent of his passes and had completions of 73 yards to Eugene Harris and 43 yards to Dustin Woods. Earlier in the week, Woods had not even been considered a candidate to play because of a shoulder he had injured the week before at Kent State.
Rush offense: A-plus
One of the better Miami efforts in a long time: 262 yards and five touchdowns. Give credit to running backs Austin Sykes (124 yards), Jamel Miller (47 yards), Thomas Merriweather (44 yards) and T.J. Lattimore (27 yards). But the biggest cheer should go to the offensive line. The holes were pretty awesome. "The line knows when they're starting to blow people off the line," Raudabaugh said. "They're snarling, they're wanting to go back in again."
Pass defense: A-plus
Six quarterback sacks by six different RedHawks (Chris Shula, Jordan Stevens, Joe Coniglio, Craig Mester, true freshman DeAndre Gilmore and Alex Stewart). That's a big reason why Bowling Green quarterback Tyler Sheehan, who came into the game ranked eighth in the nation with 315.8 passing yards per game, was held to 140. Linebacker Joey Hudson finished with a team-high eight tackles, forced a fumble and returned an interception 37 yards.
Rush defense: A
The Falcons' 25 yards on 26 carries is a result of three things: all of those sacks, the fact that Bowling Green even under the best of circumstances does not run the ball much and a Miami defense that has played exceptionally well against the run in two of the last three games now.
Special teams: B
The blocked punt by Ryan Kennedy late in the first quarter helped keep the momentum all on Miami's side. Jake Richardson, as usual, was outstanding, punting three times for a 46.7-yard average that is better than it seems since one of his punts went only 33 yards because it was downed at the Bowling Green 4-yard line by Peris Edwards. Nathan Parseghian was so-so on field goals, missing from 37 yards and later making one from 30. The kickoff coverage keeps this from being an 'A,' especially the 56-yard return by Roger Williams on the opening kickoff.
Intangibles: A-plus
The presence of Jane Hoeppner and Ben Roethlisberger charged the atmosphere of Yager Stadium, which could do nothing but help the RedHawks and hurt the Falcons. The nice weather also didn't hurt. It was a far cry from the rain and wind of two years ago and the rain and mud of last year.
